Bridge history  Opened in 1978 − Provided separate eastbound bridge  Major rehab in 2005 − Expansion Joint replacement − Repairs to deck, structural steel, substructure − Full paint overcoated original paint  2005 to present − Driving surface repair, crack repairs  Current Operations − 5 lanes on a 68-ft roadway − 77,000 vehicles per day on eastbound bridge

  5. Why didn’t MoDOT do this in 2012-2013?  Components were not to end of useful life yet  Required to utilize companion Bridge to manage traffic  Project accelerated to 2020 from 2021 original start date because of I- 270 North Design Build Project

Traffic Impacts  Westbound I-70 bridge traffic reduced to 3 WB Lanes + 2 EB Lanes separated by barrier  Eastbound I-70 bridge traffic reduced to 2 EB Lanes during peak commuting times  Nighttime closure of the Eastbound bridge and EB70 on ramps from 5 th Street  Closure of S. 5 th Street beneath Blanchette for joint replacement

  8. Schedule  Construction contract expected to be awarded in January  Construction starts March 2020  Goal to have major traffic restrictions completed by Thanksgiving 2020. Closures will continue in 2021. Lane restrictions on Eastbound I-70 only (4 lanes open, additional lane closures off-peak)

  9. Fifth Street Access  Full-duration closure of Eastbound I-70 onramp (VMP)  Nighttime closures Eastbound I-70 onramp (5 th )  Traffic detoured to MO-364 via S. River Road

  10. South Main Street  Short-term closures for expansion joint rehab & painting  Traffic detoured to 5 th Street  Coordination with City of St. Charles

  11. Katy Trail  Short-term closures to allow overhead rehab work  Coordination with Dept. of Natural Resources  On-street detour available during long-term closures
