What is NSS Discovery?

• NSS Discovery is a management information system that

provides approved users with access to a range of comparative health information (indicators and dashboards) to support benchmarking, quality improvement and performance

• Discovery is currently only accessible on the NHS network and

is access controlled with a username and password. Approval for access is managed by Boards

• Aims to provide a better understanding of variation across and

within Boards, and to help identify variation that may be unwarranted

What is NSS Discovery?

• Provides access to detailed information for a range of indicators

in order to understand what may be driving variation, facilitate discussion and reflection, and assist in delivering improvement

• All users have access to information for all NHS Boards,

Hospitals and Local Authorities in Scotland (Level 1) and can view and compare this for individual specialties and months

• Discovery can also provide users with access to demographic,

diagnosis, operation/procedure, GP practice, consultant and patient level data for their own Board with a peer/national comparisons, if relevant (Levels 2 and 3)

Monitoring colleagues to understand current dataset, including caveats, limitations, data quality, etc.

Overview

Provides a summary

• verview for all NHS

Boards currently recording at Hospital at Home activity. The view shows comparative information for the number of spells, the associated number of bed days and the average length of stay for each Board. The information can be filtered by Admission Type (elective/non- elective) and Specialty. The user can select a specific time period of interest using the date filters and the view updates accordingly.

Discovery Hospital at Home

Health Board

Provides a more detailed view for an individual NHS Board. The view shows information on the number of spells, the associated number of bed days and the average length of stay for the selected Board. High level information is provided on the most common admission conditions in terms of the number of spells or bed days. A specialty breakdown is also displayed, along with an interactive data table (annual, quarterly or monthly view).
