Where do I go from here?

Help us to help your student! Be sure you and your child are communicating! We want to be sure that your student is prepared for their future after graduation. We know that not every student is headed off to a 4-year college and there are other options for those students.

Do you know your child’s future plans?

  • College – 4 year
  • College/Tech School – 2 year
  • Military – recruiter contacts
  • Work – WBL, Internships, Employability Training
  • “Undecided” shouldn’t mean “I don’t have a plan” …

and private colleges.

  • Transcript Requests – The fastest and most efficient way to get your

transcript sent to colleges.

up”? Here’s a tool to help guide you towards your dreams.

  • Career Exploration – A great tool for our students who think a 4 year

degree is not for them.

  • HOPE & State Aid – See what you can expect HOPE to cover

Class Rank / GPA / Honor Graduate

 CLASS RANK IS BASED SOLELY ON YOUR COMPLETE GPA and the number of students in your grade level.  GPA’s CHANGE ONLY WHEN CREDIT IS AWARDED–The GPA currently showing will not change until the end of current semester.  FINAL SELECTIONS: Valedictorian, Salutatorian, Honor Graduates are determined after 1st semester of senior year.  HONOR GRADUATE: Only students who have attained an overall 90 cumulative average or above (with no rounding up) will be considered for designation as Honor Graduates.  AGAIN! There is no “rounding up”! A GPA of 89.975 WILL NOT QUALIFY for Honor Graduate status. WHILE WE DO NOT SHARE RANKINGS, HONOR GRAD STATUS, ETC., IT IS COMMONLY DISCUSSED AMONG THE STUDENTS DUE TO THE INFORMATION BEING AVAILABLE TO THE STUDENTS ON THEIR TRANSCRIPTS.

slide-13
SLIDE 13

HVJ Class of 2021

Transcripts

  • What is my GPA?- Look at the far right

side of the transcript. How do I know my Class Rank?- Look at the far right side of the transcript.

  • Will I be an Honor Graduate?-Honor

Graduates require a 90.0 at the end of the 1st semester of their senior year. If you have an 89.9 you are NOT an Honor Graduate!

  • How do I request a transcript?-

We recommend students take advantage of www.gafutures.org for most requests (these are sent electronically and ensure quick delivery). Otherwise the School Counseling Center will need a signed request form.

  • What’s on your resume that’s going to set you apart?

Move you to the top of the list?

  • Are you a leader or a worker-bee?

SLIDE 28

The Armed Services Vocational Aptitude Battery is the most widely used multiple-aptitude test battery in the world. As an aptitude test, the ASVAB measures your strengths, weaknesses, and potential for future success. Students are provided with scores on each of these individual tests and three Career Exploration Score composites: Verbal Skills, Math Skills and Science and Technical Skills. The ASVAB also provides you with career information for various civilian and military occupations and is an indicator for success in future endeavors whether you choose to go to college, vocational school, or a military career. Taking the ASVAB Career Exploration Program (CEP), does not obligate you to speak with a recruiter or enlist in the Armed Forces. Once the school receives results, an ASVAB CEP program representative will interpret your results and help you to understand how your skills, interests, and values will assist with planning for college and future in the world of work.
