Building a Healthy Neighborhood (BaHN)

  • BaHN is a concept promoted by Rebuilding

Together National. RTTB adopted this initiative and modified it to fit our service model of targeting specific low-income neighborhoods for revitalization.

  • As a result, in 2014 RTTB launched Building a

Healthier Sulphur Springs (BaHSS) and in 2016 Building a Healthier West Tampa (BaHWT).

  • RTTB took this model above and beyond and

developed an additional component: Our Healthy Home Kit (HHK).

  • A HHK is a home improvement box that includes
  • ver 25 items that improve health and safety in

the home. (i.e. smoke alarms, motion sensor lights, fire extinguisher, levered door knobs, etc.)

  • Available to both homeowners and tenants.
  • Upon the success of BAHSS, RTTB expanded and

replicated this program in the West Tampa neighborhood.

Building a Healthier West Tampa (BaWT)

  • In 2016, with the support of the Children’s Board of

Hillsborough County, (CBHC), RTTB replicated the BaHN concept in the West Tampa Neighborhood as a pilot project to benefit families with Children 0-8.

  • During that year, RTTB delivered home repairs and

Healthy Home Kit installations to 47 homes.

  • RTTB collected data accounting for the

improvements made in the health and safety of children and their families including improvements in home environmental and emotional health.

  • Sought additional funding from the CBHC to

continue Healthier Homes for Children

slide-9
SLIDE 9

Healthier Homes for Children (HHC)

delivering safe and healthy homes for families with children ages 0-14.

  • RTTB is focusing on the homes of asthmatic

children and children with respiratory conditions/allergies.

  • RTTB is providing free home repairs that mitigate

asthma triggers to reduce asthma episodes and allergies in children.

  • Partnering with the Tampa Bay Asthma Coalition
