History

  • Idea developed as a project through the Vista Community Leadership Program.

Stages of project:

  • Community consultation
  • Initial artwork/design of flyer – raising seed funding through sponsorship
  • Fundraising events & Various working bees to establish temporary sand labyrinth
  • Development of landscape plan – pro Bono, Jon Coe
  • Fundraising through sale of goods & tile sales
  • In-kind donations - timber for seats R.A.C.V milling of timber Bowerbird.
  • Grape arbour & Sun Gates – rails, wire, ties and sleepers donated by Y.V. Railway construction - funded through

Foundation for Regional & Rural Renewal

  • Development of Tiles and mosaics – over 300 -purchased by community members, and feature mosaic pieces

funded through Cultural Dev.Grant. Tiles provided by Wesley Fire & Clay (community enterprise) and fired by a local potter.

  • Mosaic pavers developed by local children as part of a community arts summer school program
  • Garden planting – volunteers, plants mixture of purchased and donated - Yarra Valley Permaculture, Open

Gardens Scheme, Healesville Guides

  • Labyrinth, Seating and Signage designed to allow access for all abilities through funding by Helen Mac Pherson

Smith Trust

  • Launch – March 2011- held in conjunction with Healesville Autumnfest, and supported by other community

projects including “Songs across the Valley”
