leics.police.uk

Campaign Aims:

  • Challenge negative attitudes around race and religion
  • Work with others to educate their communities to tackle ignorance

around race and religion

  • Promote integration in communities

In Leicestershire we wanted to extend these aims to cover all categories of hate crime and send a clear message that there is no place for hate in Leicester, Leicestershire and Rutland.

Screening of Dark Angel & Black Roses

  • In 2007 Sophie Lancaster and her boyfriend Rob were walking

home one evening when they were attacked in a local park in Lancashire by a group of 5 teenagers.

  • Sophie tried to protect Rob’s head from the attack when the

group turned on her, she died 2 weeks after the attack.

  • Sophie’s mum set up to the Sophie Lancaster Foundation and

works with the government, police, schools and local authorities on hate crime.

  • In July Sophie’s mum Sylvia came to Groby College for 2

days, she spoke to nearly 1000 students about hate crime and we watched the Black Roses film.

  • We also had a question and answer session with Sylvia, the
