ETIPWind from SGRE side

  • 50 trips over 104 days and some 100000euro investment + Pay
  • Realisation that setting the EU collective technical agenda going

forward is key to leadership and survival of industy and the academic institiutions needed to support it.

  • Only agenda was to get the organization to work and support all

members as best we could.

  • R&I support now a written goal of WE Board
  • Cross national research has proved difficult but cross border

research is alive and well and thriving. ETIPWind needs to make the collective forum with EERA and EAWE stronger - to deliver credible, high impact technology roadmaps to policy makers. We have a huge solution we need to translate it into tangible answers. The challenge is huge and you are part of the insurance that can give the world a future.

CTO group input to Patrick Child

Driving market development with targeted R&I

slide-4
SLIDE 4

Some of the main inputs to Patrick Child

  • Merit based R&I funding for all TRL´s onshore and offshore.
  • System integration .
  • sector coupling is key, outdated transport system needs new electrical fleet

and seasonal storage is a must going forward.

  • Competitive environment with China that has a huge funding budget for

research that can only be matched at EU-wide level.

  • Floating will be vital to unlock wind’s true carbon free energy potential.
  • Need to nurture and train the needed engineers, scientists and specialists going

forward.

  • Need to suppport development of new technologies and new materials.
  • Increased importance of recycling components – blades are a specific

problem.

  • New technologies for O&M and harmonise the amalgamation of national

rules.

  • Offshore balance of plant .
  • Key competitive area – more international alignment and cost reduction.

European Commission reply

On R&I funding

  • Horizon Europe will be the biggest R&I funding programme

ever, especially with Brexit.

  • ETS Innovation Fund will support close to market innovation

On the sector’s R&I priorities

  • Agreement on transversal challenges (electrification,

digitalisation)

  • Acknowledged that offshore wind is an R&I success, but that
  • nshore needs support too to retain industrial base (vs China)

On sector coupling

  • Asked explicitly for solutions to help transport and heavy

industry decarbonise – We promised to answer.

Status

  • EU knows wind exists again and is important.
  • Funding increased – need suitable projects
  • Setting the agenda with your work for WE
  • Digitalization
  • Sector coupling
  • Developing bonds to ECPE, Eschel, EMIRI
  • Vital that ETIPWind continues to support R&I with UK

going forward – This mentioned to EU whenever possible.
