Commercial Discussion
Discussion Points
Every Club and Association is unique for a whole range of reasons so what I will try to share today is ways to maximise the commercial opportunity at club level. I will explore some things that work on a National and State level plus some relevant experiences from local clubs
- Defining Commercial
- Pillars to Explore
- The 4 R’s
- Thinking Differently
- Questions
YES
- Sponsorship/Partnership – both cash and in kind
- Functions/Events – activity both in and out of season
- Fundraising – donations, raffles, benefactors, grants
Defining Commercial
Commercial Pillars
Venue(s) Sponsorship Local Government
- Right’s based – uniform branding,
signage, club and teams
- Marketing Assets – database, website,
digital channels, your members
- Fundraising and donations
- Food and Beverage
- Functions and Events
- Community Links - Finals,
Junior Hubs, Winter Sports

Infrastructure
- Grants and Funding
The 4 R’s
- Relationships – are critical to the success of sponsorship. People like
doing business with people they like. Network and nurture these relationships.
- Relevance – want is unique and appealing on a local level for your
club? Your players/families/community positioning is your point of difference so exploit these assets
- Realistic – understand the market and modify your approaches
- accordingly. What can you deliver in terms of ROI for a sponsor?
- Responsibility – dedicated focus of somebody/people on the
- committee. Sponsorship doesn’t just happen
STRATEGY ACTION RESULTS
