House Bill 5 • With HB 5 students graduate under the Foundation Program with options for: – Endorsements; – Distinguished Level of Achievement; and/or – Performance Acknowledgements.

ENDORSEMENTS
ENDORSEMENTS Upon entering 9 th grade, a student must indicate in writing an • endorsement he/she intends to earn. • “Before the conclusion of the school year, the student & the student’s parent or guardian must confirm & sign a Personal Graduation Plan for the student. A student may amend the PGP; the school shall send written notice to the student’s parents regarding the change.” (Texas Education Code Chapter 28) • A student may earn an endorsement by successfully completing: -The Foundation (22 credits) plus the following : - Curriculum Requirements for the Endorsement -1 additional MATH credit - 1 additional SCIENCE credit • - 2 additional ELECTIVE credits (A total of 26 credits)

THE 5 ENDORSEMENTS BUSINESS & INDUSTRY CTE Sequence Students must complete a coherent sequence of four (4) or more credits in CTE that consists of at least two (2) courses in the same cluster including at least one (1) advanced CTE course that is the third or higher course in the sequence. • Architecture & Construction • Arts, Audio/Video Technology, & Communications • Business Management & Administration • Transportation, Distribution, & Logistics • Information Technology • Manufacturing (Welding) • Hospitality & Tourism • Finance Journalism Sequence Students must complete four (4) credits • Advance Journalism-Yearbook
THE 5 ENDORSEMENTS SCIENCE, TECHNOLOGY, ENGINEERING AND MATH (STEM) Students must complete Algebra II, Chemistry and Physics to earn a STEM endorsement CTE Sequence Students must complete a coherent sequence of four (4) or more credits in CTE that consists of at least two courses in the same cluster including at least one (1) advanced CTE course that is the third or higher course in the sequence. • PLTW- PROJECT LEAD THE WAY (Engineering Program) Math and Science Sequence • A total of five (5) credits in math by successfully completing Algebra I, Geometry, Algebra II, and two (2) additional math courses for which Algebra II is a prerequisite • A total of five (5) credits in science by successfully completing Biology, Chemistry, Physics, and two (2) additional science courses
THE 5 ENDORSEMENTS PUBLIC SERVICE CTE Sequence Students must complete a coherent sequence of four (4) or more credits in CTE that consists of at least two courses in the same cluster including at least one (1) advanced CTE course that is the third or higher course in the sequence. • Education & Training • Health Science • Human Services • Law, Public Safety, Corrections, & Security ROTC Sequence Students must complete four (4) credits • ROTC
THE 5 ENDORSEMENTS ARTS & HUMANITIES Sequence • A total of five (5) social studies credits • Four (4) levels of the same language in a language other than English (LOTE) • Two (2) levels of the same language in a LOTE and two (2) different levels in a LOTE • A coherent sequence of four (4) credits from courses in one (1) or two (2) fine arts categories • Four (4) advanced English elective credits
THE 5 ENDORSEMENTS MULTIDISCIPLINARY Multidisciplinary Requirements Four (4) advanced courses that prepare a student to enter the workforce successfully or postsecondary education without remediation from within one (1) endorsement area or among endorsements that are not in a coherent sequence Four (4) credits in each of the four foundation core areas to include English IV and Chemistry and/or Physics Four (4) credits in advanced placement (AP) or dual credit courses to be selected from the following areas: English, math, science, social studies, economics, LOTE, or fine arts
DISTINGUISHED LEVEL OF ACHIEVEMENT
DISTINGUISHED • A student must earn Distinguished Level of Achievement to be eligible for Top 10% Automatic Admission to a Texas public university.
DISTINGUISHED • A student may earn a Distinguished Level of Achievement by completing: – 4 credits in Mathematics: must include Algebra II; – 4 credits in Science; – The remaining curriculum requirements; and – The curriculum requirements for at least one endorsement
PERFORMANCE ACKNOWLEDGEMENTS FOR OUTSTANDING PERFORMANCE
PERFORMANCE ACKNOWLEDGEMENTS A student may earn a Performance Acknowledgment : • For Outstanding Performance • in Dual Credit Courses • in Bilingualism and Biliteracy • on AP Exams • on the PSAT, the SAT, or the ACT • For earning a State, Nationally or Internationally recognized Business or Industry Certification or License
