Grade 11 Choices @ Byng • Math – Workplace Math, Foundations Math, Pre-Calculus • Science – Life Sciences, Chemistry, Physics, Earth Science (online) • Students may take more than one Science • Chemistry and Physics are required for most Science or Engineering programs • Many Business programs like students to have Calculus 12 • Students may take Anatomy and Physiology 12 without taking Life Sciences 11 but NOT RECOMMENDED!

Getting more Credits – Application Required • Advanced Placement (AP): @ Byng - Calculus, English (AP exam prep), French, Statistics & Computer Science • External Credits : Ministry Approved (examples: BC Conservatory of Music, Canadian Forces, Red Cross, Duke of Edinburgh, Girl Guides, Outward Bound, Rock School…) • Language Challenge : Register in Oct 2020 in counselling office Full day exam in Jan/Feb 2021 ($50 fee) Language requirement met – French, German, Japanese, Mandarin, Punjabi, Spanish, Korean (can’t use for admission cal for UBC)

Withdrawals and Repeats • No record on report card in first 4 weeks • Term 1 and 2 = W + date/ Term 3 = W + date + mark • Repeats: • UBC/Uvic/SFU use the highest of the repeat • Queens uses the most recent • McGill averages and looks at both grades • U of T Commerce & Engineering NO repeats • U of T use highest mark with exceptions

ELL Students ELL teachers will advise Counsellors on your required ELL • classes Assessments in May and September will determine your • placement Sign up for courses as though you are moving into the next • level Since no transitional EN 10 you need to make sure you will • have EN 10 credit (if going from ELL 3 to EN 11 – must complete EN 10 in summer school or online)

The Extras In School vs Online vs Summer School • Summer school ( info. in April ) • Remedial 2 hrs/day 4 weeks – 40-49% (maximum grade 67%) • Completion 3.5 hrs/day 6 weeks • Preview 2 hrs/day 4 weeks • Online/Summer – do not count for Honour Roll. The following courses are not included in honour roll: Community Service, Peer Tutoring, Career Life Education, Career Life Connections & Capstone • Honour Roll/Principal’s List: Grade 8 -11 best 7, Grade 12 best 6 • Gr 12 students are given priority for Gr 12 courses and Gr 11 courses required for graduation
