Design Problem Statement & Design Objectives

 To design retail and café environments that reflect

the client’s needs for a safe, and comfortable space; as well as the client’s want for a non-institutional

  • look. Other significant points discussed include: a

large amount of storage, including a club repair room; three serviceable offices; a wide variety of merchandise display units; preservation of golf course view provided by a window wall; and flexible dining and lounge spaces.

Concept Statement: Trees of Missouri

 The Oak trees of Missouri reveal numerous design relationships that are

used to guide the design of the space. Focusing on the organic, straight, and implied rhythms of the masculine Oak tree to reinforce the essential character of the space, the architectural and interior elements reflect the relationship between the tree rings that reside in the tree that compliment the rippling movement of the space.

 The kiosk and entry way is the clients’ first introduction to the

comfortable golf pro shop environment, and the concept inspired by the Missouri Oak trees that reveals itself through several different designs. The custom carpet design draws on the soft repeating circles of the Oak tree rings and directs the client visually toward the beautiful vantage point of the golf course. Upholstered furniture forms within this space also reflect the repeated circular elements. The room was softened by incorporating a circular drop down ceiling above the kiosk with warm pendent lighting. The combination of rich playful upholstery, soft curvilinear patterns within the custom carpeting and the enhanced by the drop down ceiling provides an inviting, safe and comfortable shopping experience.
