• The ¡district ¡revision ¡of ¡curriculum ¡is ¡a ¡process ¡that ¡occurs ¡every ¡5 ¡years. ¡
• The ¡district ¡Math ¡Commi3ee ¡began ¡researching ¡five ¡years ¡ago ¡by ¡first ¡

determining ¡the ¡focus ¡at ¡the ¡state ¡and ¡naIonal ¡level. ¡

• The ¡Math ¡Commi3ee ¡researched ¡the ¡NCTM ¡recommendaIons, ¡the ¡NJ ¡

Department ¡of ¡EducaIon ¡and ¡naIonal ¡Common ¡Core ¡Standards. ¡

• Based ¡on ¡the ¡Common ¡Core ¡State ¡Standards ¡and ¡the ¡new ¡assessment ¡

instrument ¡PARCC ¡(Partnership ¡for ¡Assessment ¡of ¡Readiness ¡of ¡College ¡ and ¡Careers), ¡it ¡was ¡determined ¡that ¡our ¡district’s ¡curriculum ¡needed ¡ some ¡revision, ¡as ¡well ¡as, ¡materials ¡to ¡support ¡the ¡changes. ¡ ¡

Impact ¡of ¡New ¡Common ¡Core ¡ State ¡Standards ¡

q The ¡CCSS ¡emphasis ¡is ¡on ¡teaching ¡specific ¡concepts/skills ¡and ¡vocabulary ¡in ¡ depth ¡by ¡engaging ¡students ¡in ¡developing ¡number ¡sense ¡and ¡uIlizing ¡higher ¡

• rder ¡thinking ¡skills ¡daily. ¡

¡ q Students ¡are ¡expected ¡to ¡master ¡specific ¡concepts/skills/vocabulary ¡on ¡ ¡ ¡ ¡ ¡ ¡ ¡ ¡ ¡each ¡of ¡the ¡grade ¡levels. ¡ ¡ ¡ q This ¡is ¡a ¡paradigm ¡shiT ¡in ¡instrucIon ¡from ¡a ¡spiraling ¡of ¡concepts ¡through ¡the ¡ grade ¡levels ¡presented ¡in ¡the ¡Everyday ¡Math ¡program. ¡ ¡ q The ¡changes ¡required ¡the ¡district ¡commi3ee ¡to ¡revise ¡the ¡math ¡curriculum ¡ and ¡research ¡new ¡materials ¡to ¡support ¡the ¡changes. ¡ ¡ q The ¡Everyday ¡Math ¡program ¡had ¡served ¡the ¡students ¡well, ¡but ¡isn’t ¡aligned ¡to ¡ the ¡new ¡CCSS. ¡ ¡The ¡Math ¡Commi3ee ¡visited ¡Chatham, ¡New ¡Providence, ¡ Basking ¡Ridge, ¡and ¡Long ¡Hill ¡Township ¡to ¡research ¡their ¡programs ¡and ¡made ¡ the ¡recommendaIon ¡for ¡Go ¡Math. ¡ ¡

Go ¡Math ¡Program ¡

§ Go ¡Math ¡emphasizes ¡the ¡development ¡of ¡number ¡sense, ¡ mastery ¡of ¡computaIon ¡skills, ¡the ¡understanding ¡of ¡ vocabulary, ¡the ¡applicaIon ¡of ¡reasoning, ¡logic ¡and ¡problem ¡ solving, ¡as ¡well ¡as, ¡the ¡interrelaIonship ¡of ¡math ¡in ¡the ¡world. ¡ ¡ § Go ¡Math ¡is ¡a ¡mulI-­‑sensory ¡program ¡which ¡provides ¡both ¡ manipulaIves ¡and ¡ ¡interacIve ¡tools ¡for ¡school ¡and ¡home ¡to ¡ support ¡the ¡program. ¡

Go ¡Math ¡Program ¡

§ The ¡Go ¡Math ¡program ¡is ¡a ¡research ¡based ¡program ¡that ¡aligns ¡ with ¡naIonal ¡CCSS ¡and ¡the ¡PARCC ¡Assessments. ¡ § Go ¡Math ¡is ¡a ¡highly ¡interacIve ¡program ¡which ¡allows ¡students ¡ to ¡explore, ¡develop, ¡and ¡apply ¡mathemaIcal ¡concepts ¡and ¡ strategies ¡to ¡build ¡understanding. ¡ § Go ¡Math ¡provides ¡the ¡instrucIonal ¡materials ¡and ¡resources ¡to ¡ support ¡differenIaIon ¡of ¡concepts ¡for ¡all ¡students. ¡
