Opening Prayer
Loving God, Our Father, Today we gather to celebrate a new beginning, The beginning of a new catechetical year. Open our hearts and our minds to your Word, To your Son, to your Spirit, And to one other. Help us grow in wisdom and love of you As we journey throughout this year With our parish family. We ask this through Christ our Lord. Amen.

Saint Teresa of Calcutta “Mother Teresa”
Could you become a saint? Agnes Gonxha Bojaxhiu had a life similar to
- you. She started out as a school teacher and just wanted to help people. And
her passion grew exponentially…with the help of Jesus. He called on her and she responded.
- Feast Day: September 5
- Patronage: World Youth Day, Missionaries of Charity,
& Archdiocese of Calcutta
- Born: 1910 in Macedonia, just north of Greece
- Died: 1997
- Canonized: September 4, 2016
- Awarded Nobel Peace Prize In 1979, at age of 69
- “for the glory of God and in the name of the poor”
Saint of the Month:
Saint Teresa of Calcutta “Mother Teresa”
- Joined the Institute of Blessed Virgin Mary, known as the Sisters of
Loreto in Ireland (age 18)
- Sent to Calcutta, India to teach at St. Mary’s School for girls; became
known at Mother Teresa, and became school’s principal
- During a train ride to her annual retreat, she
received “inspiration from Jesus for His thirst for love for the poorest of the poor” (age 36)
- When she returned to Calcutta, she went to
the slums, to care for the sick, hungry, and dying people. Then, some of her former students joined her…and then hundreds, then thousands helped her
- Later, she sent her sisters to other parts of India, then all around the
world – eventually with 4,000 members, 610 locations in 123 countries

- She is famous for her hundreds of great sayings. She focused on doing
the little things correctly, then the big things are easier.

for the smile is the beginning of love.”

love we put into giving.”
- “God doesn’t require us to succeed, he only
requires that you try.”
- “Spread love everywhere you go. Let no one
