'Our meeting is being held on the lands of the Wurundjeri people and I wish to acknowledge them as Traditional Owners. I would also like to pay my respects to their Elders, past and present, and Aboriginal Elders of other communities who may be here today. People might be joining us from other areas held by different Indigenous custodians, and we extend that same respect to their Elders past present and emerging’.

“The overall objective of gender equality is a society in which women and men enjoy the same
Equality between men and women exists when both sexes are able to share equally in the distribution of power and influence; have equal opportunities for financial independence…; enjoy equal access to education and the opportunity to develop personal ambitions, interests and talents; share responsibility for the home and children and are completely free from coercion, intimidation and gender-based violence both at work and at home”. United Nations Populations Fund, 2005

So girls and women can feel safe An opportunity to reach out for help through a supportive network Gain skills outside of playing sport, therefore increase confidence To feel valued and to know their worth (confidence) To work in collaboration and respect, with boys and men ….and these changes can lead to a positive change in the lives
“Sport is one of the most powerful platforms for promoting gender equality and empowering women and girls”. International Olympic Committee, 2020 “Sport is one of the most visible and powerful social institutions in the world. Individuals who are seen and known in the world of sports, like coaches, communicate who and what is relevant and valued (and what is not), and the majority of the time in every country in the world, those coaches are men” Nicole M. LaVoi (2016)
