DO SOME GOOD...IN ASHEVILLE & BEYOND

Sponsorship, ticket purchases, VIP reservations—they all support fjve important causes that make lives better in Asheville and

  • beyond. Learn about each of

these special causes below.

SCHOLARSHIPS FOR ASHEVILLE HIGH SCHOOL STUDENTS

The needs-based Tennent Scholarship was established by the Rotary Club of Asheville in 1998 for seniors at Asheville High School who qualifjed academically to go college but were struggling to fund their education. Every year since we have helped 3-5 Asheville High Seniors realize their dream of a higher education. Each year up to $10,000 is dedicated to this program.

ROTARIANS AGAINST HUNGER

For 9 consecutive years many of our members have joined other area Rotary Clubs to organize and raise funds for a volunteer food packaging event to package nearly 300,000 meals each year for families facing hunger in WNC. The packaged food is then distributed by MANNA Foodbank throughout 16 counties of WNC. A portion of the money raised is used to send seeds overseas in partnership with Rotary Clubs in other countries through Seed Programs International.

MEDICAL/DENTAL BRIGADE TO HONDURAS

For 14 years, the Rotary Club of Asheville has partnered with the Rotary Club of Copan Ruinas, Honduras to provide free dental and medical treatment for people living in remote mountain communities outside of Copan Ruinas. These people rarely have access to medical or dental treatment of any kind. Our team of dentists and physicians work with young Honduran medical professionals providing dental restorations, extractions, fmuoride treatments, eye exams, prescription and reading glasses at no cost.

BLUE RIDGE HONOR FLIGHT

In partnership with Blue Ridge Honor Flight, the Rotary Club of Asheville has participated in sponsoring 17 Honor Flights to Washington D.C. The program provides a day fjlled with events honoring WWII, Korean, and Vietnam War Veterans. Sponsoring local veterans includes providing free air and ground transportation, and meals throughout the day as they tour the war memorials in D.C. Many of these heroes may have never been thanked for their service and sacrifjce for our country until they participate in an Honor Flight.

P.E.G.

The Rotary Club of Asheville has a goal of raising $10,000 to help ensure the future of a school in Tzanchaj, Guatemala. We will be partnering with Proyecto para las Escuelas Guatemaltecas (PEG), a U.S.-based non-profjt founded by David LaMotte, which focuses

  • n literacy, critical thinking, and artistic expression. Nearly all of PEG’s projects are

created and run by Guatemalans. In almost 14 years, PEG has raised nearly $200,000, primarily in small donations, for school and library projects in Guatemala.
