Quiz

  • 1. What is the definition of

green water?

SLIDE 5

Scope

Green water

  • Essential part of the water cycle
  • Water availability determines productivity:

derived from rainfall that is available in the soil for plant growth through transpiration

  • Opportunity for change: managing green water

✓ Water capture increases water availability by reducing rainwater runoff and groundwater seepage ✓ Water storage reduces evaporation

Enhanced rainfed agriculture

  • Umbrella term for on farm techniques and

approaches to manage green water

  • Includes concepts such as Conservation

Agriculture, soil health, regenerative agriculture, rainwater harvesting

Classification Description Green Water Soil moisture from infiltrated rainfall available for uptake by plants. Blue Water Rain water run-off occurring in streams, rivers, wet-lands, dams, lakes and aquifers. Grey water Waste water from domestic or commercial sources (not contaminated by toxic pollutants). Black water Water contaminated by organic or inorganic pollutants, especially faecal matter.
