Why Participate in BOCES Services

  • Two or more Districts share a service that a single district can’t provide on their own
  • Centralized provision of service may be more cost effective
  • Multiple participating districts result in a cadre of staff
  • Shared Business Office provides the ability for enhanced segregation of duties

Lighting the Way to the Future

slide-19
SLIDE 19

Participation in BOCES Services

  • Each Component District Board selects services to purchase for the upcoming year
  • A portion of the cost is returned to the District by the State of New York as BOCES

Aid

  • Most services generate aid
  • A few services do not generate aid
  • Each service is operated separately as a CoSer (Cooperative Service)
  • Money not spent in a CoSer is returned to the participating Districts
