  17. UK ECLS PROGRAM Michael Sekela, MD, surgical director of the UK Heart Transplant program, first conceived the idea of developing an ECMO transport team in the early 1990s. Today, our ECMO transport team now completes over 30 runs per year, while the hospital completes over 100 cases per year.

  18. UK ECMO VOLUME According to 2016 Vizient data, UK HealthCare ranks 10 th in adult ECMO patient volume – treating more patients than centers such as Cleveland Clinic, Mayo Clinic, and John Hopkins.

It can be completed at the end of each presentation or at the end of the meeting. Information from these is very important in determining educational needs and planning future continuing education activities. • At the conclusion of the sessions each day, all physicians will be emailed the link to the MOC II questions . You are required to enter your Board ID number. The deadline to complete the assessment is November 16 .

  23. DID YOU KNOW? UK is the first program in the US to use the Avalon Lumen Catheter, developed by UK’s own CT surgeon, Jay Zwischenberger, co- author of the ECMO Red Book.

  24. ECMO AT UK HEALTHCARE UK is the only center in Kentucky offering adult ECMO transport. In fact, you’d have to travel more than three hours in any direction – as far east as Charlottesville, as far north as Indianapolis, and as far west as Nashville – to find another center with the same service.
