The purpose of Stage 3 is to identify up to 15 contestant teams who meet the challenge requirements to compete in Stage 4:

  • Accepting new entries from Walk-on’s to join December 4 - 18
  • Continuing contestants will submit entries December 4 - 18
  • NIST is looking for drones that meet and demonstrate the criteria for

flight and safety supported through flight video and documentation

  • Winners of Stage 3 may include both Walk-on and continuing

contestants

  • Eligible to participate in Stage 4, the live event, being held at Benson,

AZ in early April, 2021

  • Compete for up to $302k in remaining prizes

PSCR Overview

slide-6
SLIDE 6

PSCR is driven towards advancing public

safety communications technologies by

accelerating the adoption and implementation of the most critical communications capabilities to

ensure the public safety community can more effectively carry out their mission

to protect lives and property during day-to-day

  • perations, large scale events, and emergencies.

Challenge Goal

Goal

Advance UAS technologies by designing, building and flying drone prototypes to support first responders. A ‘lost person in a desert area’ initiates a search & rescue operation; An aerial vehicle/UAS carrying a communications device is deployed to provide broadband network coverage.

Context

The Public safety community requires enhanced drone features and capabilities to fly for 90+ minutes while carrying a heavy payload to support the mission.

Objective

To fly a UAS and its payload airborne for the longest time possible to support first responders’ communication technology.

NIST Goal: To inspire, motivate and support all teams in their pursuit of being the “Last Drone Standing”

  • Have a working UAS prototype that meets the Challenge Requirements &

Objectives

  • Submit a Stage 3 entry by 9 PM EDT December 18, including:

1. Test flight videos per Rules (pg. 23-24): Provide web links and password (if protected) 2. Technical Performance Measures (TPM) Workbook: Complete using the

  • template. Note: evaluation standards for video test & safety readiness review

included 3. Bill of Materials (BOM): Included in the TPM Workbook 4. Summary Slide: Complete using the template 5. Optional Calculation/Test Results File: show evidence supporting target endurance

Stage 3 Entry Requirements

  • Instructions for TBM Workbook completion
  • 0 Requirements
  • Demonstrate the defined system configuration meets/exceeds the challenge

requirements & objectives by citing evidence

  • 1 BOM (Bill of Materials)
  • Define all elements of a system, inclusive of hardware, software, make, buy, and

free items

  • At minimum, the BOM should allow procurement of all required components;

enabling tracking of system cost, total system weight, component weight, and all up weight

  • A BOM can be cross checked with the system overview video submitted by

contestants
