My soul procl claims the greatness of the Lord,my spirit rejoices in God my Saviour; for he has looked with favour on his lowly servant. From this day all generations will call me blessed: : the Almighty has done great things for me, and holy is his name. He has mercy on those who fear him in every generation. He has shown the strength of his arm, he has scattered the proud in their conce ceit. He has cast down the mighty from their thrones, and has lifted up the lowly. He has fj fjlled the hungry with good things, and the rich he has sent away empty. He has come to the help of his servant Israel, for he has remembered his promise of mercy, the promise he made to our fathers, to Ab Abraham and his children for ever. Glory to the Father, and to the Son, and to the Holy Spirit: : as it was in the beginning, is now, and will be for ever.Am .Amen.

Sirach 38:1–4, 6– 10, 12–14 Sirach 38:1–4, 6– 10, 12–14

Honour physicians for their services, for the Lord created them; for their gift of healing comes from the Most High, and they are rewarded by the king. The skill of physicians makes them distinguished, and in the presence of the great they are admired. The Lord created medicines out of the earth, and the sensible will not despise them. And he gave skill to human beings that he might be glorifjed in his marvellous works. By them the physician heals and takes away pain; the pharmacist makes a mixture from them. God’s works will never be fjnished; and from him health spreads over all the earth.

My child, when you are ill, do not delay, but pray to the Lord, and he will heal you. Give up your faults and direct your hands rightly, and cleanse your heart from all sin. Then give the physician his place, for the Lord created him; do not let him leave you, for you need him. There may come a time when recovery lies in the hands of physicians, for they too pray to the Lord that he will grant them success in diagnosis and in healing, for the sake of preserving life.

The Word of the Lord. Thanks be to God.

Psalm 147:1-7 Psalm 147:1-7

Hallelujah! How good it is to sing praises to our God! how pleasant it is to honour him with praise! The Lord rebuilds Jerusalem; he gathers the exiles of Israel. He heals the brokenhearted and binds up their wounds. He counts the number of the stars and calls them all by their names. Great is our Lord and mighty in power; there is no limit to his wisdom. The Lord lifts up the lowly, but ca casts the wick cked to the ground. Sing to the Lord with thanksgiving; make music to

  • ur God upon the harp.

As for you, always be sober, endure sufgering, do the work of an evangelist, carry out your ministry fully. As for me, I am already being poured out as a libation, and the time of my departure has come. I have fought the good fjght, I have fjnished the race, I have kept the faith. From now on there is reserved for me the crown of righteousness, which the Lord, the righteous judge, will give to me on that day, and not only to me but also to all who have longed for his appearing. Do your best to come to me soon, for Demas, in love with this present world, has deserted me and gone to Thessalonica; Crescens has gone to Galatia, Titus to Dalmatia. Only Luke is with me. Get Mark and bring him with you, for he is useful in my

  • ministry. I have sent Tychicus to Ephesus. When you

come, bring the cloak that I left with Carpus at Troas, also the books, and above all the parchments.

The Word of the Lord. Thanks be to God.

Luke 4:14-21 Luke 4:14-21

Then Jesus, fjlled with the power of the Spirit, returned to Galilee, and a report about him spread through all the surrounding country. He began to teach in their synagogues and was praised by

  • everyone. When he came to Nazareth, where he

had been brought up, he went to the synagogue

  • n the sabbath day, as was his custom. He stood

up to read, and the scroll of the prophet Isaiah was given to him. He unrolled the scroll and found the place where it was written:

The Spirit of the Lord is upon me, because he has anointed me to bring good news to the poor. He has sent me to proclaim release to the captives and recovery of sight to the blind, to let the oppressed go free, to proclaim the year of the Lord’s favour.’ And he rolled up the scroll, gave it back to the attendant, and sat down. The eyes of all in the synagogue were fjxed on him. Then he began to say to them, ‘Today this scripture has been fulfjlled in your hearing.’

The Gospel of Christ Praise to you, Lord Jesus Christ.

Holy Eucharist Holy Eucharist

The Lord be with you. An And also with you. Lift up your hearts. We lift them to the Lord. Let us give thanks to the Lord our God. It is right to give our thanks and praise.

We give you thanks and praise, almighty God, through your beloved Son, Jesus Christ, our Saviour and

  • Redeemer. He is your living Word, through whom you

have created all things. By the power of the Holy Spirit he took fmesh of the Virgin Mary and shared our human nature. He lived and died as

  • ne of us, to reconcile us to you, the God and Father of

all. In fulfjlment of your will he stretched out his hands in sufgering, to bring release to those who place their hope in you; and so he won for you a holy people. He chose to bear our griefs and sorrows, and to give up his life on the cross, that he might shatter the chains of evil and death, and banish the darkness of sin and despair. By his resurrection he brings us into the light of your

  • presence. Now with all creation we raise our voices to

proclaim the glory of your name.

Holy, holy, holy Lord, God of power and might, heaven and earth are full of your glory. Hosanna in the highest. Blessed is he who comes in the name of the Lord. Hosanna in the highest.

Holy and gracious God, accept our praise, through your Son our Saviour Jesus Christ; who on the night he was handed over to sufgering and death, took bread and gave you thanks, saying, “Take, and eat: this is my body which is broken for you.” In the same way he took the cup, saying, “This is my blood which is shed for you. When you do this, you do it in memory of me.” Remembering, therefore, his death and resurrection, we

  • fger you this bread and this cup, giving thanks that you

have made us worthy to stand in your presence and serve you. We ask you to send your Holy Spirit upon the ofgering of your holy Church. Gather into one all who share in these sacred mysteries, fjlling us with the Holy Spirit and confjrming our faith in the truth, that together we may praise you and give you glory through your Servant, Jesus Christ.
