► Sixth grade is a big transition

  • year. This is when many

students begin middle school.

► In middle school students will

move from classroom to classroom throughout the day.

► Some 6th graders may be a

little nervous about this at first and worry about finding their classes.

however, because everyone will figure it out soon with the help

► In fact, most students find

middle school a lot more exciting than elementary school for this reason.

► Tip #3 Do Your Homework. Making a habit to do your homework each night will help you practice skills and be ready for quizzes and tests. Focusing and using class time wisely is one of the best ways to get ahead in middle school.

times when things get tough. We all feel overwhelmed at

► Tip #9 Make small goals. Think about the kind of person and student you want to be each week, set a goal for yourself, make a plan, and stick to it. The best goals are those that are specific and easy to follow. ► #10 Take risks. Middle school is the time when you start to grow up and figure out who you are in the world. Get excited about your future, make new friends, be brave and try something new.It will pay of in the end!

What if I have a question about school work?

ASK FOR HELP

Knowing how to ask for help- also called self advocacy- is very important. Try problem-solving first. When possible, try to figure out the solution to your problem on your

  • wn before you ask your teacher for help.

Teachers like it when students try to problem solve before asking for help. It shows independence. Try to use your resources. For example, see if the answer to your question is in your textbook or notes.

Ask for Help

Be brave. If you’ve tried to problem solve, but still need help, then be brave and ask your teacher. ► Take a deep breath and remind yourself that asking your teacher for help is a mature thing to do. ► Say to yourself, “Asking for help means I’m

  • mature. It’s what I should do when I don’t

understand.” ► You can also remind yourself, “There’s probably someone else that has the same question, but is afraid to ask. So I’ll be brave and ask.”
