1968 - The Department of Electronics into the Faculty of Electronic Engineering 1970 - The two departments of the Faculty of Law and Economics independent faculties 1971 - The Departments of Mechanical and Civil Engineering independent faculties. The Faculty of Philosophy established - seven departments Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry, Sociology, Psychology, English and Physical Education (Sport) 1972 - The Faculty of Occupational Safety out of the Faculty of Civil Engineering 1979 - The Faculty of Technology founded
1987 - The Faculty of Philosophy included the Department of Serbian Language and Literature 1993 - The Teacher-Training Faculty in Vranje established 1995 - The Faculty of Civil Engineering included a new department - Architecture, which was consequently added to its name 1998 - The Faculty of Philosophy included the Department of History The Faculty of Fine Art and the Faculty of Applied Art and Design of the Belgrade University of Art opened academic divisions in Niš 1999 - The Faculty of Science and Mathematics and The Faculty of Physical Culture out of the Faculty of Philosophy

2000 - Six new departments Geography and Biology with Ecology (the Faculty of Science and Mathematics) Philosophy, Pedagogy, Slavic & Balkan Studies and Fine Arts (the Faculty of Philosophy) 2002 - The Faculty of Fine Arts established with three study options - for visual arts, applied arts and music - previously functioning within the Department of Fine Arts of the Faculty of Philosophy 2004 - New Department for Journalism within the Faculty of Philosophy 2008 - The Department of Serbian Language and Literature of the Faculty of Philosophy divided into the Department of Serbian Language and Department of Serbian and Comparative Literature.

Faculty of Electronic Engineering
At the end of fifties of the last century there was one engineer in 55 employed in electro industry. According to the development plan of this economy branch in 1961 and 1962 there were 45000 people to be employed, and in 1971 those were 80000 workers. At that time engineers were educated at the Faculty of Electrical Engineering in Belgrade. In the academic year 1960/61 the first generation of students of the department of Electronics of the Technical Faculty of Niš was enrolled. From the moment when the first graduated student Aleksandar (Antonije) Nenčić defended his diploma paper till today, 5509 candidates
- btained diplomas of the Faculty of Electronic Engineering in Niš, 516
defended master theses, and 187 candidates defended doctor theses.
