  • Dr. Jennifer Sparrow
Academic Director for General Education and Professor of English at the CUNY School for Professional Studies “From My Course to Our Program”
  • Dr. Jennifer Sparrow will discuss her
experiences using technology in General Education courses from the perspective of a faculty member and administrator: building scalable online courses and programs, providing support for students and faculty, assessing learning outcomes, and dealing with competing technologies and platforms. Introduction: Provost Bonne August N-119 “Wireless at City Tech” The Office of Computing Information Services will present:
  • 1. Wireless network available on campus (secure and open).
  • 2. Our wireless policies.
  • 3. How to connect a laptop/tablet/hand-held device to our wireless network.
  • 4. The process of requesting a guest(s) account for wireless connectivity.
Tremmelle Thomas and Freddy Altamirano, OCIS G-604 “A Modularized Tablet-Based Approach to Placement in Remedial Mathematics” Basic arithmetic forms the foundation of the math courses that students will face in their undergraduate
  • careers. It is therefore crucial that students have a solid understanding of these fundamental concepts.
Here at City Tech, incoming freshmen who were identified as lacking in basic arithmetic skills were engaged in an experimental technology-enhanced workshop designed to provide them with a deeper understanding of arithmetic prior to their initial remedial coursework. Customized online content was created specifically for this experiment, and the first implementation (n=27) yielded statistically significant improvement, not only from pre-test to post-test, but also in the subsequent remedial course. I also analyze the accuracy of students’ self-assessment from pre-test to post-test, as well as student attitudes about this experimental approach.
  • Prof. K. Andrew Parker (Mathematics)
N-119 Online Learning Advisory Council (OLAC) Moderator: Director Karen Lundstrem “Faculty Observation and Student Evaluation of Hybrid and Online Courses” Use of the online assessment tool for peer observation of faculty; student evaluation of hybrid and
