- Exterior color schemes must be selected
based on the historic-based, regionally- relevant, architectural style of your home.
- Avoid “trendy” colors … for they will
soon be outdated.
- Just because someone else in the
community has a color scheme you like, doesn’t mean that color scheme will work for your home.
- Don’t attempt to use your interior color
scheme on the exterior of the home.
Step 2
Understand How Exterior Colors Work
- Don’t believe what you see on the small color
chip.
- Realize that colors “amplify” in the desert sun.
- Use colors that are darker, duller and more earthy
than you think.
- No “White” Colors with an LRV of more than 76.
- Dark Colors with an LRV of 15 or less will fade
and chalk much more quickly in the desert sun.
- Consider how adjacent colors impact each other.
- Seek professional advice.
- Picking the wrong color for interior rooms is not a big deal.
- Picking the wrong color for the exterior of your home could be a disaster.
