  • Exterior color schemes must be selected

based on the historic-based, regionally- relevant, architectural style of your home.

  • Avoid “trendy” colors … for they will

soon be outdated.

  • Just because someone else in the

community has a color scheme you like, doesn’t mean that color scheme will work for your home.

  • Don’t attempt to use your interior color

scheme on the exterior of the home.

slide-54
SLIDE 54

Step 2

Understand How Exterior Colors Work

slide-55
SLIDE 55
  • Don’t believe what you see on the small color

chip.

  • Realize that colors “amplify” in the desert sun.
  • Use colors that are darker, duller and more earthy

than you think.

  • No “White” Colors with an LRV of more than 76.
  • Dark Colors with an LRV of 15 or less will fade

and chalk much more quickly in the desert sun.

  • Consider how adjacent colors impact each other.
  • Seek professional advice.
  • Picking the wrong color for interior rooms is not a big deal.
  • Picking the wrong color for the exterior of your home could be a disaster.
