A little bit of the history on eID in the Faroe Islands

  • 1996 The first faroese PKI based login solution was

implemented first Homebanking solution.

  • 2002 the Tax administration launced an eservice for import

tax based on the same PKI tecnology.

  • In 2009 the government aprooved the law about digital

signatures.

  • 2011 a small committee conducted an analyse of the possible

to implement the danish NemID solution on the Faroe Islands.

  • This work ended without any clear decision about

implementing NemID in the Faroe Islands

A little bit of the history on eID in the Faroe Islands

  • 2014 a strategy seminar on digitalizing Faroe Islands
  • 2015 a strategy for a Faroese digital ID was formed.
  • 2015 (ultimo) a preparation project was initiated by the banks

and the government.

  • 2016 (spring) the preparation project was conducted and
  • July 1st 2016 the final decision on implementing a Faroes

digital signatur solution was signed.

Status and next step

  • July 1st the banks and the government signed an agreement on

proceeding with implementing the Faroese digital signature and ID

  • Over the summer there has been a prequalifying process for an
  • perating partner and 2 companies is just last week prequalified for

this.

  • The following weeks the prequalified companies and the project will go

thru a study on best practice on operating national digital ID solutions.

  • Parallel to this tenders are being produced. Mid October a tender on
  • perating the system will be realised
  • About the same time a tender on building the eID solution will be

released as well.

  • By the end of the year it is the goal to have the tenderprocess and all

contract ready and signed.
