Strategic objectives

  • Submit a Common Training Framework for

“specialists in laboratory medicine” in preparation for transposition of EU Directive 2005/36/EC into national law

  • Increase the number of registrants on the

“specialists” EC4 register

  • To work with UEMS to develop a unified

syllabus for education/training in Laboratory Medicine

2005/36/EC: The “Recognition” Directive

  • 20 years gestation
  • Enables free professional migration across EU

borders with effect from January 2016

  • Provides opportunities for “gatekeeping” within

professions e.g. identification of the specialist in laboratory medicine role

  • “Gatekeeping” requires submission of a Common

Training Framework that has the support of 10 EU member states

  • October 2014: Submission to the EU Commission

  • f conduct, competencies
  • Identification of 10 EU member states to support

a Common Training Framework: only Slovenia has secured government support

  • National society engagement with government

co-ordinators is urgently required
