Juul 12.09.2012 Balkan partners: • University of Tuzla, Faculty of Technology (main Balkan partner) • University of Novi Sad, Faculty of Technology Lead institution in Norway: • Sør-Trøndelag University College, Faculty of Technology • Project period 2011 -14; - HERD funding 3,155 mill. NOK EDUFOOD; main goal - - is to build capacity and competence of Western Balkan Universities to be resources for local producers and processors of fruit and wild berry through university – enterprise cooperation in education and development and by providing continuing education •1

  2. •17.09.2012 EDUFOOD sub-goals • Map challenges and potentials of improvements in production technology and hygiene of the cooperating fruit and wild berry producers and processors • Establish learning forms for campus students that will ensure education that is relevant for employment in industry. This will include practical placement and projects for and in co-operation with local enterprises • Map the needs for and establish continuing education , courses and workshops for enterprises and possibly authorities in the sector • Establish Centre for Knowledge Transfer in Tuzla • Establishing systems of cases from innovation- /development projects as projects for campus students as well as for students of continuing education Triple helix activities to provide BiH operation plan for agriculture and food processing • Through the university – enterprise (-authority)- cooperation they will - – educate candidates that will be better prepared for positions in the industry and public sector – be able to offer applied research and campus student projects for and together with enterprises – offer continued education and seminaries for employees in industry and public sector – partly different and complementary advantages in knowledge and lab facilities UNTZ/UNNS • The concept and methodology for university–enterprise cooperation will be similar for – and thus transferrable for other types of food production and processing • HiST staff will combine their expertise with the experience and expertise of their West Balkan colleagues •2

  3. •17.09.2012 Cooperation partners outside University in BIH • Four types of non-university organizations – firms dealing in primary agricultural production – firms dealing in food processing and production of drug – NGO (non- government) institutions – government institutions • Companies in primary agricultural production and food processing companies participate will make available technological equipment and organizational resources • Government institutions will make available their organizational resources EDUFOOD overall activities • Steering Committee – Faculty leaders (Deans at F. of Technology) at each institutions. Meetings twice a year (Physical or by distance) • Workshops – one at each locations (UNTZ, UNNS, HiST) – inviting members of collaborating projects • Videoconferences – shorter and more focused meetings – prepare for using video later for distance learning • Project web site • Dissemination of experience and results – Workshops, seminars, Tuzla Summer University, articles for relevant country journals •3

  4. •17.09.2012 EDUFOOD exchange • Exchange of staff from Balkan and Norway – discussion and education on instruments and equipment – triple helix activities – building of internal communication and relations – opportunity for meetings • Exchange of students from Balkan – instrument exercises – practical experiments of student thesis – Student thesis collaboration with Norwegian students?   5. •17.09.2012 Project status; exchanges • Student exchange from Balkan to HiST April 12 – May 18 – 2 students from University of Novi Sad (UNNS) working on laboratory analys for their master thesis (chemical, physical and sensory analyses on dried cherries and fermented sausages respectively – 3 students from University of Tuzla, Bosnia working on laboratory analys for their bachelor thesis (chemical and physical analyses on dried plums, dried ramson and blackberries (both on dried and frozen) – Several industries were visited • Staff exchange May 12 -18 – 2 professors from University of Novi Sad and 3 professors from University of Tuzla • Visiting NOFIMA Ås discussing the food sensory analyses in research projects and for industrial purposes. Practical methods and routines at NOFIMA were focused. The visiting groop were also given a short presentation about the NOFIMA research on fruit and berries and had a short visit at the different NOFIMA process laboratories. • Short meeting at BIOFORSK discussing possible project synergies • Short meeting with the HERD secretary • With HiST colleges; evaluating student exchanges spring 2012 and discussing the possibilities of improvements for the planned exchanges in spring 2013 • Planning exchanges of HiST students to Novi Sad for 5 months early in 2013 (as a project supporting activity) • Discussions with HiST colleges on plans for the construction of a lab for sensory analyses at UNNS and investments of laboratory instruments at UNTZ • Visiting food industry (Grilstad Ranheim; fermented sausages) • Discussions on practical and economical project routines Project status; triple helix activities • Mapping of needs in industry started late in 2011 • A workshop including 22 participants outside university was arranged at UNTZ as a part of the Kick-off meeting. The aim of the workshop, as well as in the first phase of the project is to: – determine training needs for the transfer of knowledge the food industry – determine the level of ability (performance) Faculty of Technology, University of Tuzla to answer the demands of the food industry – facilitate so that the state institutions and NGO organizations get familiar with the food industry, the possibilities of the faculty and its surroundings that need the support of government institutions and NGO organizations • As an activity in the training program for the food industry in the Tuzla region an EDUFOOD course/seminar on food quality and food analyses will be arranged on 18 th and 19 th of September 2012 •5

  6. •17.09.2012 Project status; - more about activities in 2012 • Three HiST-professors visited UNTZ og UNNS in January for discussions on project details. Visits and discussions also at the laboratories • Project leader will be inTuzla September 18 – 21 where he will take part in an EDUFOOD project course/semina r on food quality for industry – and a symposium With food to health ( Tuzla Summer University; - as a project supporting avtivity) • Aquiering lab. equipment at UNTZ (spectrophotometer and microscope) and construction of a laboratory for sensory analyses at UNNS Possible synergy and collaboration with other HERD projects • R&D cases that may be used for work on student thesis • Intentions of collaboration with the HERD Agriculture project Evaluation of fruit genetic resources in Bosnia-Herzegovina with the aim of sustainable, commercial utilization – lead institution in Norway: Bioforsk Ullensvang – BIH partner: Faculty of Agriculture and Food Sciences, Sarajevo • We are open for possible other cooperation •6
