1 Support for the management of MMI resources

By the specification of a Resources Manager responsible of :

• Providing a list of the available MC
• Adapting the frequency of requests according

to the overall state of the system.

• Parallelizing requests according to the

availability and description of the system's components.

• Processing, providing and storing information

about the past, present or the estimated states of the MCs

• Providing and storing information about the adress of the MC on the top of UPnP control points or

UDDI registries.

• Processing, providing and storing information about the properties of the available Modality

Components.

To allow multimodal developers the use of a communication flow initiated by Modality Components arriving dynamically to the multimodal system.

2 Extending the MMI Lifecycle Events

• We are working on an extension of the MMI protocol allows the client to request or notify new

data to/from the system; using for example, form submissions or AJAX-based technologies with the XMLHttpRequest object.

• The change in the state of the multimodal session (i.e. the dynamic inclusion of new

modalities) is instigated from the Modality Component itself. After a certain period, the Modality Component client requests the component responsible of the management of resources who notifies the changes on the user interface or in the data related to the overall state of the system, causing eventually the Modality Component‘s state to evolve, for example, by putting it

• n stand-by while the environment is not adapted.

3 High-Level multimodal data for registration

To support the annotation or tagging of Modality Components, to enhance their discovery and registering in a multimodal system. The focus is the dynamic discovery of Modality Component as services using high-level information about the underlaid properties and processes.
