Microsoft customer user case Based in Berlin, Munich, Hamburg, Frankfurt, Bremen and Braunschweig, the customer is a leading German engineering firm. Employing roughly 140 people, they develop fire protection systems for national and international construction projects ranging from office buildings to airports to football arenas. The Customer The customer wanted to replace their existing any-any it with a more efficient network that would meet its high security and performance requirements The customer asked Colt to implement a DCA solution to ensure secure, fast access to Microsoft Azure The Challenge The customer chose an Ethernet Hub & Spoke solution with managed layer 3 CPE :

• The main location was equipped with an existing hub with

redundant building feeds.

• In December 2014, two 200M Colt DCA spokes were added to

provide a connection to Microsoft Azure in Amsterdam

• Office 365 was added at a later stage

Solution The solution provides the customer with private, secure connectivity from their on-premises network to a flexible cloud service from Microsoft Azure. The solution allows the customer to scale up and down additional workloads in the Azure environment in line with their business demands, under a true hybrid model. Benefits

ECX Overview

The Equinix Cloud Exchange acts as a cloud aggregation platform, allowing Colt to interface with multiple cloud service providers at the ECX locations. It is effectively a “virtual cross connect” between the Colt network and the CSP. Available topologies Layer 2:
