Friends of Our Florida Reefs (FOFR) is a 501c3 nonprofit citizen support organization dedicated to conserving and protecting over 100 miles of vital coral reefs directly offshore between Miami- Dade and Martin Counties by supporting and enhancing the critical efforts of the Florida Department of Environmental Protection's Coral Reef Conservation Program (FDEP CRCP).

  3. The Need Friends of Our Florida Reefs will focus its efforts on raising funds and support to help enhance and/or initiate vetted FDEP CRCP reef management programs and activities, including preparing for rapid response to reef emergencies and other sudden unexpected needs. In addition to providing critical financial support to the FDEP CRCP, it is anticipated that FOFR will also assist the State to conserve and protect the reefs via cooperative direct action and education & outreach in accordance with the CSO agreement.

The Need (cont’d) Sample of Financial Assistance Needs Identified by the FDEP CRCP: ● 2016 Roll-out of OUR FLORIDA REEFS community working group recommendations ● A new socio-economic report detailing the various values of the reef tract ● Budget gaps for habitat restoration at ESM Trust Fund Sites ● Water quality monitoring - NOAA training FDEP CRCP and partners to collect data ● Refreshments for stakeholder, special, and public meetings ● Rapid Response options, and other important needs to be determined soon Sample of FOFR Needs Identified by the FOFR Board: ● Capacity for general operations, fundraising, and special event production ● Outreach & Education opportunities as they arise, tabling materials ● Meetings, printing, professional services, insurance, and typical NPO needs

  5. Milestones ● Incorporated in April 2015. Received 501c3 letter in July 2015 ● Holding regular board meetings - 5 members, room to grow ● Established a web presence - www.FloridaReef.org ● Participated in 5th Annual SE FL Reef Clean-up and more ● Conduction outreach & education, partnering with orgs & cities ● Assisting FDEP CRCP with modest needs as we ramp up to 2016 ● Raising significant start-up funds and much more!

  6. Donations Welcomed Friends of Our Florida Reefs is a Florida registered 501c3 nonprofit organization. FOFR gladly accepts monetary gifts of any size via check, cash, or electronically online. In year 2015, fundraising will be primarily for organizational capacity and rapid response. It is anticipated that FOFR will help the FDEP CRCP with significant budget gaps and needs starting in 2016. Annual Membership in FOFR is Open to the Public: Individuals ($20) Students ($10) Companies ($100) with unique member benefits TBA soon!
