FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE CONTACT: Chelsea Colophon | Head Librarian, CSI:Miami Forensic Library PHONE: 305-603-6640 EMAIL: Forensic.Library@CSIM.gov August 3, 2013 | MIAMI, FL Miami-Dade Police Department Crime Scene Investigation Forensic Library to Create Digitized Crime Database The digitized crime database will help serve the Miami-Dade community by uniting and consolidating resources to make it easier for investigators to find information and evidence that will help solve

  • crimes. By digitizing physical resources, investigators can now

search an electronic database to cross-reference information, including data on cold cases. With the new digitized materials, investigators can now compare current electronic data with old evidence and can cross-reference evidence and data like never before. The digitized crime database will not only help local investigators solve current and cold cases, but will also help map crime patterns to aid in crime prevention. The CSI Miami Forensic Library also intends to use this database to connect with other law enforcement agencies and share information. Working together and sharing information about open cases will allow law enforcement on every level to be more effective in solving crimes and keeping our communities safer. Implementing this digitized database will result in significant cost savings for taxpayers, saving storage space and creating a more efficient, streamlined system for our law enforcement agencies. It will also help make our communities safer by allowing investigators to explore existing evidence files in new ways, helping uncover new information about cold cases and about crime in our community. About us: Miami-Dade Crime Scene Investigation Forensic Library is a data management solution serving the Miami-Dade County Police Department. Our mission is to protect our community by uniting our resources. To this end, we strive to capture accurate and relevant information which provide law enforcement with helpful

  • resources. CSL serves law enforcement in Miami-Dade and provides

information and assistance to the surrounding counties, playing a pivotal role in the resolution of an average 1,800 crimes every

  • month. The CSI Forensic library utilizes the open-source TACTIC

digital asset management software, allowing maximum usability and flexibility while keeping costs at a minimum.
