In the past week….

  • COVID-19 Testing: HHS issued guidance authorizing licensed pharmacists to order and

administer COVID-19 tests, including serology tests, that FDA has authorized under an EUA. This follows numerous outreach efforts by APhA advocating for this authority.

  • Tax Holiday for : After APhA reached out to Rep. Huizenga (MI) asking to add pharmacists, he

added us to the HEROS Act of 2020, giving first responders a 4-month tax holiday.

  • Compounding: FDA issued compounding policy clarifications, aligning with questions posed by

APhA jointly with other pharmacy organizations. Clarified: ❑ Hospital/health system “one mile radius” provision ❑ Do not intend to enforce 5% limit on interstate distribution until MOU finalized ❑ Drug on shortage list or not marketed or d/c’d as commercially available under “essentially a copy” provision ❑ Drug on shortage list produced by an outsourcing facility is not considered “essentially a copy” and will not take action for compounded drugs that are essentially a copy of an approved drug that is not marketed or d/c’d
