WE DO THIS IN THE FIRST COUPLE OF WEEKS OF TERM 1 IN PREPARATION FOR ORGANISING FUTURE EVENTS, THE SENIOR VCAL CLASS PLAN THE DAY FOR THE WHOLE OF VCAL IT IS ABOUT CREATING CONNECTIONS AMONG THE COHORT, AS WELL AS CELEBRATING THE DIFFERENT PATHWAY THEY HAVE CHOSEN

Term 1: TEACHING A SKILL TO THE YEAR 7S PDS LEARNING OUTCOMES: ALL LITERACY: ORACY FOR KNOWLEDGE, WRITING FOR KNOWLEDGE STUDENTS FORM SMALL GROUPS AND DECIDE ON A SKILL TO TEACH TO THE YEAR 7 COHORT THEY ARE IN CHARGE OF THE SESSION AND HAVE TO RUN IT TWICE IN ONE AFTERNOON THEY HAVE TO PLAN THE WORKSHOP , ORGANISE RESOURCES NEEDED TO RUN IT AS WELL AS CONDUCT AN EVALUATION AFTERWARDS THEY THEN HAVE TO COMPLETE A PRESENTATION ON THEIR WORKSHOP TO PRESENT TO THE CLASS IN THE FORM OF A POWERPOINT INCLUDING PHOTOS, SURVEYS AND THEIR OWN REFLECTIONS

STUDENTS PREPARED SESSIONS FOR THE GRADE 5 AND 6’S AT ABERFELDIE PRIMARY SCHOOL THESE SESSIONS WERE FOCUSED ON BULLYING, TEAMWORK, BEING INCLUSIVE/MAKING FRIENDS AND CONCERNS ABOUT HIGH SCHOOL

Mentoring Project - Continued

FOR THE FINAL SESSION THE ABERFELDIE STUDENTS CAME TO BUCKLEY PARK COLLEGE WHERE OUR VCAL STUDENTS ORGANISED A SCHOOL TOUR, GAMES & A SAUSAGE SIZZLE IT WAS REWARDING FOR OUR STUDENTS AND THE PRIMARY SCHOOL CHILDREN LOVED THEIR BIG BUDDIES.

Term 3/4: DOMESTIC VIOLENCE/ VIOLENCE AGAINST WOMEN PROJECT

WE DECIDED TO CHOOSE AN ISSUE THAT WAS A CONCERN WITHIN OUR COMMUNITY STUDENTS STUDIED A RANGE OF VIDEOS AND STATISTICS RELATED TO THIS ISSUE AND WERE ASKED TO MAKE SOME OBSERVATIONS FROM THESE THEY ORGANISED FOR A SPEAKER TO COME TO THE SCHOOL AND ADDRESS THE YEAR 10 COHORT, AS A WAY OF RAISING AWARENESS JESSE, FROM REKIAH’S LAW CAME AND SPOKE AND IT WAS EXTREMELY

  • VCAL STUDENTS ARE GOING TO ORGANISE A WINTER SLEEP OUT AT

SCHOOL, WITH PROCEEDS GOING TO URBAN SEED

  • Now: student/school-funded
  • Accredited barista course via Coffee School
  • Open every Tuesday at recess and lunch
  • Runs as a competition between students - whover makes the most

money gets a Nandos feast at the end of the semester.

  • Student groups choose 1 specialty item to sell (donuts, icy poles, etc.)
