  2. Table Talk • At your table do the following: • Select a recorder • Introduce yourself • Service Center Council • Position • Share why Local Chapters and Service Center should have a Community Engagement Program? • Share with larger group

  3. Long Term Strategic Plan/Service Centers • Raise the awareness of members and leaders of the need to establish community connections. • Create a CTA program to develop the community engagement team model (comprised of single or multiple locals, or SCC). • Phase in community engagement teams across CTA.

  4. Long Term Strategic Plan/Service Centers • Assess the effectiveness of partnerships with parents, other unions, and community organizations. • Strengthen communication links between the state and local level in terms of relationships with community organizations.

  5. WHAT DOES IT ALL MEAN? • Service Centers can play an important role in educating locals on the importance of establishing a community engagement team. • Service Centers can assist to identify community base organizations and other groups.

  6. WHAT DOES IT ALL MEAN? • Service Centers can create a networking of groups that they can bring together to work on educational issues/social justice issues. • Service Centers can assist locals to identify members who are involved in other groups.

  9. BUILD A PLAN ESTABLISH YOUR GOALS As a team establishing goals will assist you in putting together a plan. Keep it simple.

  10. BRAINSTORM ACTIVITIES • IT IS IMPORTANT FOR THE ALL MEMBERS OF THE TEAM TO CONTRIBUTE. • EACH CONTACT SHOULD IDENTIFY GROUPS FOR EXAMPLE: • MINORITY AT-LARGE – IDENTIFY ETHNIC MINORITY ORGANIZATIONS IN THE COUNTY • WOMEN’S CONTACT – WOMENS GROUPS • LGBTQ+ - ORGANIZATIONS • HUMAN RIGHTS – ORGANIZATIONS

  11. BRAINSTORM ACTIVITIES • Announce your community engagement plan to Local Chapters. • Share your Community Engagement goals. • Ask locals to identify at least one from each of the groups: • Union(s) • Community Organization(s) • Parent Group(s) • Faith Based

  12. BRAINSTORM ACTIVITIES • Have locals submit their groups to Service Center to create a database. YOU DON’T HAVE TO MAKE A LONG LIST TO BEGIN

  13. SERVICE CENTER COUNCIL ACTIVITY • Plan a reception or meeting to bring together groups to discuss Proposition 55 (The Children’s Education and Health Care Protection Act). • Create a calendar of meetings to bring the groups together for them to share their issues.

  14. SERVICE CENTER COUNCIL ACTIVITY • Equity Team should identify and invite their groups. • Coordinate activities with local chapters.

  16. Service Center Community Engagement A written Action Plan will help the Service Center and Local stay focus on their goals. It will also make sure that individuals are held accountable in getting the work done.

  17. ACTION PLAN Having a Checklist for developing an Action Plan is very helpful. It allows you to make sure that you get started, target folks to get involve, stay focused, plan, act and evaluate.

  18. Build a countywide database that will assist you in building stronger relationships throughout the Service Center Council
