TOP TEN QUESTIONS RECEIVED

Our organization has an operating budget below the minimum grant

  • threshold. Can we

apply? We are specifically looking for organizations that can meet this budget threshold. If your

  • rganization's annual budget is below $750,000

(and thereby does not meet the eligibility requirements outlined in the RFP), you can consider working with or joining an eligible backbone

  • rganization's application as a partner or potential

sub-grantee.

TOP TEN QUESTIONS RECEIVED

7

Can you please clarify the match

  • requirement. Can

it be in-kind? Can it be a federal grant? The purpose of the match is to spur new funds to support your local MBK efforts around youth violence prevention and/or mentorship. While we will accept grant funds as a match, they must have been received this fiscal year. These funds must be dedicated to scaling or expanding a violence prevention or mentoring initiative. Furthermore, we will preference net-new funds, as this demonstrates a cross-sector, community-wide commitment to the

  • work. Match funding cannot be satisfied with in-

kind donations. Applicants must secure a 1:1, dollar for dollar match in order to be eligible for award under this RFP.

What is your definition of a "backbone"

  • rganization?

For the purposes of this RFP, we define backbone

  • rganizations as non-profit organizations that

ultimately seek to improve social outcomes by

  • rganizing cross-sector groups of partners to

transform inefficient, fragmented systems. These

  • rganizations must demonstrate an ability and track

record of success in guiding an initiative, in partnership with local government, via five core activities: 1) Guide vision and strategy 2) Support aligned activities 3) Establish shared measurement practices 4) Build public will 5) Mobilize funding

TOP TEN QUESTIONS RECEIVED

Can you please clarify how many grants are available and the difference between “Impact” and “Seed” grant.

Unless your organization is based in Chicago, you cannot apply directly for a Seed Grant. All general applications will evaluated as a Impact Grant proposals. Similarly, unless they are applicants from the City of Chicago, MBK Alliance will select Seed Grant award winners from the Impact Grant pool. We will be selecting only one application from each community as the Impact Grantee. We will make up to 7 Impact Grants nationally, including one for Chicago and 2 for California. Additionally, we will be selecting up to 5 communities that applied for Impact Grants who will receive Seed Grants. Finally, in Chicago, in addition to one Chicago Impact Grant, we will be awarding 4-8 Chicago Seed Grants to

  • rganizations who applied for Chicago Seed Grants.

TOP TEN QUESTIONS RECEIVED

With respect to the Community Coordinator Position, is the award winning

  • rganization

expected to hire this person or will MBK Alliance? The Community Coordinator position will be hired by the grantee in accordance with guidelines set forth by the MBK Alliance. Additionally, the match funding provided to the grantee for the purpose of hiring a MBK Community Coordinator is in addition to the program budget. For example, if an

  • rganization is awarded a $500,000 Impact Grant,

they will also receive an additional $50k-$75k to hire their MBK Community Coordinator. Award winning communities/Grantees will be expected to raise an additional $50k-$75k to fulfill the salary of the MBK Community Coordinator. This total amount would cover salary and benefits. Office needs should be covered under the program budget.
