Self-Guided Walking Tour

On Monday, July 2, 2018, the Planning and Economic Development staff provided the City Council a self-guided Downtown Poulsbo walking tour. The tour highlights 44 buildings in Downtown Poulsbo or its

  • utskirts. It includes heights and design elements.

✓ Individuality of form, design and color all contribute to the eclecticism of Downtown Poulsbo. ✓ Most buildings are flat roofed, with facades or mansards along building frontages. ✓ There is a variety of heights, stories, and roof designs, which collectively, provide visual interest and building form diversity.

Building Height Observations

Framework principal Jeff Arango, AICP, offers the following observations after preparing the building height graphics and reviewing the draft development standards: ▪ Front Street additions (existing buildings on small lots without parking), is essentially prohibited under the current code based upon the stringent parking requirements. ▪ Redevelopment will occur on larger lots where the required parking can be accommodated either underbuilding, undergrade or sufficient area for surface parking. ▪ 4:12 pitched roofs are challenging for additions, due to first floor heights and overall height limits.
