  2. THE GAMBIA The Gambia is small west Africa country bounded by Senegal on the three (3) sides and by the Atlantic Ocean on the fourth sides. Its known for its diverse ecosystems around the central Gambia river. The capital city is Banjul. The Gambia current population is about 2,181,882 million people. It has a surface area of about 11,295km².

  3. NATIONAL WATER & ELECTRICITY COMPANY LTD National Water and Electricity company (nawec) is the company solely responsible for the provision of Water and Electricity for the whole country. In addition the company is also responsible for management sewerage system in the capital city. The Company is making business in two sector that is: 1. Electricity, 2. Water and Sewerage. Electricity consist of Generation, Transmission and Distribution. Water consist of Production and Distribution and at same time managing Sewerage.

  4. WATER PRODUCTION AND SEWERAGE DEPARTMENT In water Production, They are solely responsible to extract water from the ground that is from Boreholes and at same managing Sewerage.

  5. DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES The water and Sewerage under the National Water and Electricity Company is tasked to ensure the supply of clean, reliable and potable water and sewerage services. The division comprises of Water Production, Distribution and Sewerage Departments with a total staff of 232. That is Water Production 127 staff, Water Distribution is 71 staff and Sewerage Department is 34 staff.

  6. WATER TREATMENT PROCESS IN THE GAMBIA These water from Boreholes are pump through pipes to the Treatment Plant where this water is treated through an aeration to the reservoir thank.

  7. The Treated Water is pumped into over head tanks for storage and Distribution through pipes for consumption.

  8. SEWERAGE The Gambia Sewerage is poor as we get problem everyday. The structural design is very poor. We have blockages every day and we always hire the services of private septic tank truck owners to in order to remove such blockages. The Sewer is not treated and is pumped directly in the sea at 900m offshore.
