Proposals out for membership consultation Revision of proposals as result of consultation Consideration by executive 29th November
SLIDE 7
All to be qualified in addiction studies Provisional registration Supervisor accreditation Phasing out associate endorsement Overseas applicants to show evidence of
equivalency of qualification and competency in working with Maori & with Pacific
SLIDE 8
Renewal of Registration Criteria: from the membership consultation Five substantial issues were raised in the feedback.
SLIDE 9 1
Immediate post-graduate training for allied health practitioners too expensive and likely to deter entry into the workforce Recommendation: this criterion be deleted and replaced with a new criterion stating that all applicants applying for full registration must hold a level-7 addiction-specific qualification. So this leaves the timing to negotiation between the allied practitioner and their employer. Provisional registration can last up to 3 years.
SLIDE 10
2
The gap between post-qualification and being provisionally registered will be problematic especially for those returning to the workforce. Salaries are based on registration and the 1 year+ gap will be a disincentive to entry into the workforce No changes recommended
SLIDE 11
3
Why Te Taketake and not other level 6 courses? No changes recommended
SLIDE 12
4 What if applicant’s scope of practice doesn’t meet the range of the competencies? What if CPD requirements aren’t met by the practitioner? Recommendation: retain the Associate Practitioner endorsement for under-performing registered practitioners. They cannot stay at associate level for more than one year
SLIDE 13
5
The proposals will be out of step with funding contracts – so longer transition period required. Recommendation: that while a beginning date is set for 1 July 2013, dapaanz will consult with funders and planners and if the date is not reasonable then dapaanz can adjust the start date in response
SLIDE 14
Supervision Six substantial issues were raised in the feedback
SLIDE 15
1.
Two years immediate experience in addiction will cut out numbers of experienced people (those returning to the workforce, those in non-clinical positions), and move supervision duties to less experienced staff or take out experienced staff from practitioner duties
SLIDE 16
Recommendation: delete the two year requirement and reduce the years of clinical practice to three. Thus: Have completed a minimum of 3 years of clinical practice in working with addiction
SLIDE 17
- 2. Plea for inclusion of NZAC registered
counsellors Recommendation: include membership of NZAC as an approved profession. They will still need to meet the remaining criteria, including three years experience in working with addiction
SLIDE 18
- 3. What if an experienced practitioner
wants non-AOD specific supervision
- r those who contract-in particular
supervisors to meet particular needs? Recommendation: no change
SLIDE 19
4 Where does supervision provided by cultural rather than AOD practitioners sit? Recommendation: no change
SLIDE 20
5 Replace HPCA registration with membership of HPCA-registered associations + NZAC and SWRB Recommendation: Agree to this change
SLIDE 21
6 Some rural areas will not be able to provide accredited supervisors Recommendation: no change
