Emerging evidence shows an association between sedentary behaviour and overweight and

  • besity, with some research also

suggesting that sedentary behaviour is independently associated with all-cause mortality, type 2 diabetes, some types of cancer and metabolic dysfunction. These relationships are independent of the level of overall physical activity. For example, spending large amounts of time being sedentary may increase the risk of some health outcomes, even among people who are active at the recommended levels. (2011)

Y6 children from Crescent Academy were asked ‘Would you keep the desk cycles for next year’s class to use or would you get rid of them?’ and here is just one example of what was said. “When I first started Y6 I was worried about SATs and I didn’t think I was going to pass because I was always messing around. But since I’ve used the desk cycle it actually made me get back on target and I actually learnt a lot more than I thought I would, which has helped me in the SATs which I thought made it easier, so I think loads more people should use them.”

Daniel, "It makes me focus more and builds my leg muscles.“ Gracie, "I like it, it's extra exercise...indoors!“ Lucus, “They help me do the mile run quicker and easier. They make my legs less heavy. Plus it's fun to pedal when learning.” Ethan, “I believe the desk cycles help me because they use the rest of my energy after break.”
