Rationale

Three key aspects:

  • Central role of teachers and teaching quality in raising achievement

(OECD, 2005; OFSTED, 2006; WHO, 2011)

  • Teachers feel they are not adequately prepared to support students with

SEN (Ware et al, 2011; Kinsella et al, 2014; Fortin, 2010; Tangen,2005)

  • One in four Irish school children have a learning or special education need

(Banks and McCoy, 2011).
