  11. MDV Initiative and Coverage Many rabies endemic countries of Asia and Africa are yet to campaign MDV They are facing problems in prioritization, planning and mobilization of resources. Catching stray dogs the first and most difficult step in MDV. It requires involvement of different sectors, expertise, fund and commitment.

  12. Livestock Department: Yet to take responsibility The vaccination of roaming dogs also belongs to no man's land The public health problem lies with human, the responsibility of MDV lies with livestock Vaccinating unworthy dog is not a priority for livestock The problem of rabies in cattle is also not well reported, thereby masking the burden. It did not happen in many countries that, DLS&A came forward for conducting MDV.

  13. Role of Health Department Health department faced the pressure of addressing dog as source of rabies as humans are fatal victim. So, it is the public health of many countries of South America, Africa and Asia that have started to take the responsibility of conducting MDV.

  17. Characteristics of successful MDV The campaign itself also deserves few characteristics to be effective and feasible; • the duration to short, • vaccine should be of quality, • target coverage to be achieved, • campaign should be cost effective and affordable and reproducible. • It is also important to have capacity building through piloting and scale up campaigns to ensure coverage of a whole country or a whole region within shortest possible time.
