Legacy Challenge

A grant from the UU Congregation at Shelter Rock provides $4.5 million in matching funds for a 10% cash match for new legacy gift intentions for the benefit of the Wake Now Our Vision Collaborative Campaign partners and UU congregations.

Legacy Challenge - Goals

• Educate – Resources, workshops, and webinars to explain the basics
• f legacy giving.
• Connect – Lifting up all that connects our congregations and

institutions to each other as well as our individual connections to the legacy of Unitarian Universalism.

• Inspire – Legacy Challenge will provide a 10% matching gift for

eligible new legacy gift commitments in 2019 or 2020.

How does it work?

Make a Legacy Gift

• Name WNOV Partner/UU congregation in your will or as a

beneficiary of a retirement account, bank account, or whole life insurance policy.

Send in pledge form

• Complete and sign the WNOV pledge form.
• Send it in along with a copy of the relevant pages of your

will or a copy of your beneficiary designation form.

Gifts now AND later

• A 10% match on your future gift will be sent to the UU orgs

and congregations you have designated starting in 2019.

• Your future gift will leave a transformative legacy for

Unitarian Universalism.

What Gifts May Qualify for the Legacy Challenge?

• Gifts made through a will or trust
• Gifts made through a retirement account or whole life insurance policy
• Charitable Gift Annuities and other life income gifts can be eligible for a flat

$1,000 match

What is the time frame for the Legacy Challenge?

• New legacy gift intentions made between January 1, 2017 and June 30, 2020 may

qualify for the legacy match. Matching funds will be allocated based on the date on which pledge forms and supporting documentation are received.

• For the purposes of the Legacy Challenge, legacy gifts will qualify as “new” if they are

made between January 1, 2017 and June 30, 2020 OR if the receiving institution is unaware of this intention previous to January 1, 2017.
