What if I am an undocumented student ?

  • The CSU Nonresident Tuition Exemption (AB 540) is available for certain nonresident students

including U.S. citizens, permanent residents, and undocumented individuals who have attended, graduated, or achieved the equivalent from a California school.

  • Why is it important to apply for the Nonresident Tuition Exemption (AB 540)? This exemption

allows eligible undocumented, legal permanent resident and U.S. citizen students to pay in-state tuition at public colleges and universities.

  • If you are an undocumented student, please speak with your counselor to receive support in

completing the CSU application as well as the Nonresident Tuition Exemption.

  • Where can I find the Nonresident Tuition Exemption Request (affidavit)? Click HERE for the tuition

exemption request form. Supporting documentation such as official school transcripts should be submitted with the form.

How do I apply for the Educational Opportunity Program (EOP) ?

The Educational Opportunity Program (EOP) provides admission, academic, and financial assistance to EOP-eligible undergraduate students. EOP participants receive ongoing advising, tutoring, mentoring, and workshops designed to increase retention and graduation rates. Who Can Apply? Only historically low-income, educationally disadvantaged students who need admission assistance and support services to succeed in college are eligible to apply to EOP. They must demonstrate academic potential, motivation to succeed, and meet the income criteria HERE. Every CSU campus has an EOP for low-income undergraduate students who are CA residents or qualify for an AB 540 nonresident tuition exemption and are disadvantaged because of their economic and educational backgrounds.
