Health and Safety Code § 571 571 Commitment Criteria • Severe and Persistent Mental Illness • Because of the Mental Illness • Person is likely to cause serious harm to self or others, or • Is suffering severe and abnormal mental, emotional, or physical distress • Experiencing substantial mental or physical deterioration of ability to function independently
