The Province is working to make the producers of Paper Products and Packaging fully responsible (incl. costs) for the Blue Box program. The Blue Box program COULD change throughout Ontario to:

  • Status Quo, (“non-transitioned”) the Town continues to provide the current Blue

Box Collection program. 50% funding

  • Producer Program, (“transitioned”) the companies whose material are in the

Blue Box (Producers) collect it privately or contract the Town to collect it for

  • them. 100% funding
  • A new “hybrid-recycling” system is developed to replace the current Blue Box

program.

  • Under the current legislation, the Town receives up to 50% of its blue

box costs. The goal is 100% funding by the Producers of the waste.

  • Comments on a possible plan are due to the Province by Feb. 2018
