= 50 to 65% of GHG emissions

Without a change in indirect emissions, reduction of 95% of direct emissions would mean only 16% reduction for the Brussels Region ! Climate change and resource management are linked and need ambitions on circular economy

HOW IS CIRCULAR ECONOMY THE ANSWER?

slide-7
SLIDE 7
  • In 2017, 54% of the population lived in urban areas and cities account for 85% of GDP
  • Cities = 75% of resources consumption, 50% of waste production, and 60 - 80% of

GHG emissions.

  • But also, cities are key players in the transition with high density of resources, capital,

data and talents on a limited geographic territory

  • Recovering concentrated flows of materials, sharing products & assets, designing for

repair and disassembly become more feasible and are but a few of the many opportunities for circular economy in cities Cities that adopt the principles of circular economy become more

attractive, liveable and resilient.
