Environmental impact

Extremely reasonable

  • 100% of the trail = paths
  • 95% of the paths are accessible to horses all the year
  • 70% of the paths are exclusively reserved for horses
  • 240 horses on three days, or 80 per day
  • so no more than the standard daily attendance
  • this last one will be zero during the 3 days of

competition as strongly discouraged by press and announcements

  • The marking will be in place 1 day before the first competition / No mark on the

trees / Immediate dismantling after the last competition

  • Avoiding the dispersal of spectators in the forest / Concentration of spectators on

3 main sites: the gates of La Hulpe castle, La Cambre wood, Red Cloister abbey / Possibility of closing the axis Groenendael - Uccle (only available for vehicles of the assistances)

  • No crew point in the forest
  • No motor in the forest (one

electric quad excepted during one week for marking and security)

slide-35
SLIDE 35

01/12/2016 BEEM 2017 35

Security measures

 The zero risk does not exist, but ...  The entire box area is enclosed.  The horses are provided with a chip for a satellite locating.  All road crossings will be monitored by our security teams and / or the police.  The same locations will receive an imposing signage as to encourage motorists to slow as to oblige riders to take the walk.  Some parts of the trail, considered dangerous, will be framed with high barriers (for example: Notre Dame de Bonne Odeur

  • r deforested area at south side of Groenendael,).

 Our advertising campaign will reflect this by putting the safety aspect of road users by issuing warnings and map dangerous points.  The whole trail is accessible to emergency services for humans and horses.  GSM networks cover almost the entire forest.

slide-36
SLIDE 36

 70% of the trail are on paths exclusively reserved and designed for horses.  80 horses each day of competition, so no more than the standard daily attendance. This last one will be zero during the 3 days of competition as strongly discouraged by press and announcements.  Most competitors are professional and run at a canter of 20 km/h or less. They therefore theoretically at any time control of their horse.  The most acute moment remain linked to and the first 20 km because the horses are

  • grouped. The departures occurring at 6:00 or 7:00, the risks are minimized.

 Our communication campaign (which publishes the plans of the trail) encourage forest users not to use equestrian paths, stay on main usual gates and to be extremely cautious on mixed routes.  Information panels will be placed at all usual entrances of the forest.  Members of the OC will be responsible for informing walkers on the sites of the conventional forest gates.  Every year since half century of endurance races at all levels are organized throughout the world on land and various sites. To our knowledge, apart from very few accidents affecting or horse and rider, no third party has never been involved.  If necessary, there is opportunity to advance the program from one day to free on Sunday (maximum attendance day). But do not forget that we are in August. The public is more restricted.

Innovative concepts

SPONSORS MASTER

 Resuming the competition’s concept of sponsored teams invented and developed in Compiègne between 2007 and 2013 (average of 88 runners and 25 teams).  Only the team classification features for substantial prize money.  Creates links with the business world.  Can be declined on a yearly ranking based on a tournament of, by example, 3 different European events.

MASTER FOR 6 YEARS

 The other FEI disciplines all have their Championships for 6-year old horses.  Today the sport and the market are being developed with young horses. This would be an opportunity for Brussels to be a showcase for endurance horse breeding, for the sport and for the trade in endurance horses.  This project replicates the process for the the “Mundial for 7 years Young Horses " that we initiated at Compiègne in 2003 and which was accredited as the World Young Horses Championship by the FEI in 2006.

01/12/2016 BEEM 2017 39

WORLD 100 MASTER

 Last but not least : a concept to establish Brussels as the capital of the endurance with the

  • rganization of the world

greatest endurance event.  A CEI3*160 or CEIO3*160

  • pen only to riders and

horses classified in the Top 100 of the FEI ranking of the previous year .  This concept will may

  • rganize every year on the

same track a competition

  • f the highest level of the

sport and prestige with a value at least as high as that of a world championship.
