  2. HISTORIC MOVIES RELEASED IN 1939

  3. WW II STARTED ON SEPTEMBER 1, 1939 OREGON CHAPTER CHARTER GRANTED JULY 5, 1939

  4. Oregon Chapter of ASHRAE 1934 Professor Earl C. Wiley (known as the “father of the chapter”) joined the ASHVE Society while developing a small heating lab at Oregon State College. Earl began discussing the merits of ASHVE with those around him.

  5. Oregon Chapter of ASHRAE 1937 First “ Oregon State Air Conditioning Conference ” was held in Corvallis. Interest in the Society grew, and many applicants were gained.

  6. Oregon Chapter of ASHRAE 1939 Professor Earl Wiley, Don Kroeker, Bert Farnes, and Harry Mead invited ASHVE Society President James F McIntire to meet with the group in Portland during his West Coast tour.

  7. 1939 Events • March 15 th - President McIntire agrees to meet with Oregon group on 4/27/39 • April 27 th - Pres McIntire speaks on “The Birth of Air Conditioning and the Future” at the Heathman Hotel • May 8 th – 22 local persons meet to discuss dynamics of establishing a local chapter of ASHVE • May 15 th – Oregon petition with 37 signatures is sent to Society

  8. 1939 Events • July 5 th – The Council grants the Charter for the Oregon Chapter of ASHVE • Oct 5 th – First Oregon Chapter dinner meeting was held at the Multnomah Hotel ($1.75) with 38 members and 50 guests including many city & state officials in attendance.

  10. Oregon Chapter of ASHRAE 1942 Due to fuel shortage, City of Portland and Commissioner Bill Bowes consults with Chapter to develop report on “Fuel Conversation”. Chapter produces 53-page report with 10 measures for all building owners to utilize. Report is used by fuel companies, state programs, and the Dept of Interior in Washington DC. Information on report is listed in newspapers, on the radio, and at school PTA meetings.

  11. Oregon Chapter of ASHRAE 1946 In October, the Chapter issues volume I, number I of its new local newsletter called “The Diffuser”. This occurred while W Bruce Morrison was the President of the Chapter. ( Issues were upto 42 pages )

  12. Oregon Chapter of ASHRAE 1951 The Oregon Chapter sponsored Society’s Semi-Annual Meeting with Bert W Farnes assigned as the General Chairman. It was known as the “City of Roses Meeting”, and it set several new records for attendance.

  13. Oregon Chapter of ASHRAE 1955 American Society of Heating and Venting Engineers (ASHVE) undergoes a name change to America Society of Heating and Air- Conditioning Engineers (ASHAE).

  14. Oregon Chapter of ASHRAE 1956 The Oregon Chapter sponsors the very first Chapter Regional Conference (CRC) in the Society’s history, and it was held in Portland.

  15. Oregon Chapter of ASHRAE 1959 The American Society of Heating and Air-Conditioning Engineers (ASHAE) and American Society of Refrigeration Engineers (ASRE) merge into the American Society of Heating, Refrigeration & Air-Conditioning Engineers (ASHRAE)
