P PR RE ES SI ID DE EN NT T’ ’S S R RE EP PO OR RT T

So, the second season for the Brisbane Water Blue Tongues has come to a close. Congratulations to all who participated and contributed throughout the season in whatever capacity – player or behind the scenes or

  • both. It becomes clearer every season that in a volunteer organisation, the results are always only as good as

the efforts of those who make it tick along. To everyone who worked so hard on the executive committee, the social committee, on statistics and just in general in the cricket sense, the club is indebted to you. Thank you, most sincerely. It’s true to say that we have learnt a lot about how best to drive cricket participation and the running of a club

  • f this size over the last two years. It’s also very true to say that some changes need to be made before next

season, so that we can create a better club for everyone involved. To that end, an early AGM is being looked at to better plan our club going forward. This may well involve looking for more people to fill smaller roles within the club, so please, as you are reading this, consider whether you might be able to play a role in our

  • future. We must look to continue the drive to produce the best possible club for the benefit of all concerned

both currently and in the future. In my view, one of the keys to this is working only with people who want to work with us within the club. This always results in less people being let down over a season, and can save people such as selectors hours on the phone every week trying to get teams on the park. On the field, in the senior ranks, things were much tougher than we perhaps would have liked. The brightest light in an otherwise flat season was the efforts of the Division 6 squad to make the semi-finals – the only squad to do so this season. In truth though, our Division 4 and 5 sides performed with distinction, just failing at the final hurdles, our Division 3 and 7 sides were well led during the year by Peter Foote and Mitchell Rodgers and gave it everything each week. However, our Division 1 and 2 sides struggled to make an impact, sometimes due to varying unavailability of players which caused lack of continuity in these teams. As results failed to fall for us, pressure grew and eventually we failed to make the finals series – a major problem for the

  • nly club looking for promotion and a real issue for us going forward.

A different story however, in the junior ranks once again. We had 5 teams make the semi-finals, (Under17Blue, Under 15A, Under 15C, Under 13A and Under 11A), 3 make it through to the grand final and 2 premiership winners. Congratulations to our youngest competitive team the Under 11A’s, who finished fourth at season’s end but were good enough to win their last two games to be crowned premiers. Also, congratulation to our Under 15C side who, due to the nature of the Under 15 competition, saw some changes to their circumstances during the season. In the end, they were good enough to overcome that, and were eventually crowned premiers in the Under 15C competition. Well done to all of our junior teams, coaches, managers and scorers for their efforts during the season, once again you have led the way for the Blue Tongues!!! So finally, some recognition to some of the really hard working individuals in our club. To Geoff Drury and his team who drove our cricket function – many thanks for your efforts. To Russell Guest, who took on the coaching role and made a difference to many, your efforts were greatly appreciated. To Dave and Alicia Amaral, Jackie Brown and Steve Hills who drove all of our social activities, thank you for your efforts. To the rest of the committee – Tim Shelley and Simon Scarr (Vice Presidents), Mark Brown (Secretary), Tony Belcher (Treasurer) thank you for your efforts during the season. To the parents, scorers, coaches and managers who made junior cricket possible for our kids this season, many thanks to each and every one of

  • you. If I’ve missed anyone, I apologise, but sometimes the best work is done behind the scenes without much

fuss.

So then, on to season three for the Blue Tongues!! It promises to be one of growth and of success for us, as many of our younger players make great strides into the senior competition and strengthen those ranks – because that is our future and that is what we must all work toward – opportunity for all young cricketers to succeed and grow. A final, cautionary note however – we all need to realise that those who currently do those jobs that are so vital for our success won’t always be around. Many are considering their positions for next season and may not continue. Please, to all that read this report, think about getting involved at some level in the running of our club next season. There’s plenty of help for you if you’re thinking you don’t know how. Only by finding more people to help in the running and administration of the club can we hope to become the club we know we can be!!!! See you all again next season………… Mark Ronson PRESIDENT

In2Cricket

Milo In2Cricket started in November last year with an influx of around 20 kids keen to learn the game and have some fun. We also welcomed the larger than life Big Al Lock to the role of Co-ordinator and entrusted him with the role of looking after these kids and teaching them the skills of the game. This proved to be a master stroke as Al – with his experience as a PE teacher – was a perfect choice for the role and had the kids hanging off his every word – as well as hanging off him literally (usually by an arm or leg)! As with previous years, the improvement in all the kids’ skills over the programme was enormous, with their catching, fielding, batting and bowling all coming along really well by the end of February. This included kids in their first year, as well as a few of the second and third year veterans, who also continued to hone their skills. Thanks to all the parents for bringing their kids down every week - I hope they had a great time and enjoyed their introduction to cricket. Thanks also to a number of mums and dads for helping Big Al out throughout the

  • season. It was greatly appreciated and helped Al run the programme and keep the kids in smaller, more

manageable groups. Overall, a great season was had by all. I know from speaking to Al that he had fun and, from observation, I could see all the kids did too. I’m also sure the parents enjoyed 1½ hours of the cheapest child care going around! Keep the kids practising over the winter months and hopefully we’ll see them again next season in either the In2cricket or Under 9’s competition. On behalf of the Club, I would like to pass on a huge thank you to Al for his dedication and patience – this is probably the hardest but most enjoyable coaching role in the Club and to have Al run the program as professionally and enthusiastically as he did is a credit to him and a real shot in the arm for our Club. Thanks Al! Tim Shelley Vice President

Under 9 Milo Blue

Season 2014/15 saw six new up and coming cricketers commence their cricketing careers with the Bluetongues as part of the Kanga under 10s (blue) team - and I couldn't be prouder of them! Given that it was each player's first season and they were all only 7 and 8 years old, often playing against competitors another 2 years older, they had an extremely successful season winning approximately half of their games! Of course, most pleasing was the amazing progress each player made both with their skills and understanding of the game as the season progressed. There were many highlights on the field throughout the season including spectacular wickets, big sixes, classic catches and superb run outs but the biggest highlight was the fact that every player turned up each Saturday excited for the match and played with enthusiasm and a smile on their face. The team included Bailey H, Bailey P, Logan B, Aaron B, Oliver and Jaylen J. Also thanks to our super subs Angus and Will (little brothers) who filled in when required and were both fantastic players too!! I would like to thank all the players for a fantastic season and being so eager to learn. I hope you all enjoyed it as much as I did. The improvement showed by you all will see you being poached by the senior teams in no time!! A special thanks also goes to the parents who all chipped in with scoring, cheering and kit duties etc, especially Oliver's mum Vanessa umpired a number of games throughout the season which was a huge help. Coaching an Under 11 cricket team was never something I had ever planned to do. Whilst it was somewhat challenging, it was also an enjoyable and rewarding experience. Firstly, I would like to thank the other parents who pitched in during the season to help with scoring, umpiring, organising and warming up the players. And a special thank you to Geoff Drury for giving up his time to help out at some practice sessions and supporting the team at some of our games. Our team had a real mix of ability and talent but they were all equal in their keenness and passion for the

  • game. Our first win didn't come till Round 5 and it gave a real boost in morale. Four more wins came in the
  • season. Whilst we would have liked to have won more games, all players ended the season better batters,

bowlers and fielders than when they started. This was evident in some great wickets that were taken and batters reaching retirement scores. Thank you to the players for an enjoyable season of cricket and I hope to see you all playing again next season. Linda Harris

Under 11 Blue

This year was a disrupted year with Kariong oval closed for most of the year which meant we had to play afternoon games and home games all over the place. A big thank you to Linda from the other Brisbane Water team for organising players for us when we needed them.

Overall the boys and girls played the game in the right spirit and all players improved during the year. The players are: Danny – our reliable wicketkeeper and batsman. Great year Danny. Will – improved in both batting and bowling during the year and ended up claiming the most wickets Ben – very consistent bowling and was very unlucky not to get more wickets. I’m sure you will get plenty next season. Brie – once Brie believed she was good enough there was no stopping her, several times getting the top score. Mathew – improved all year and got his highest score in the last game, great effort for your first year of cricket Harry – the season’s top scorer and bowled with plenty of pace. Well done. Floyd – had a disrupted season, but when he played was reliable and in my opinion the best fieldsman in the comp. Sam – every team needs a player like Sam – always energetic and encouraging the bowlers in the field. Sam never died wondering with his appeals, even from fine leg. Sam’s batting improved all year until the last game when got a retired 20 (only problem he was filling in for the other team). Also, a special mention goes to Clem and Andy for scoring during the year. Glen Evans COACH

Under 11 A’s - Premiers

Wow, what a season! To end up winning the Under 11A premiership in a competition comprised of 12 good teams after being dead last after the third round was a fantastic result! It is also testament to the ability, tenacity and resilience of these eight young men and one young lady and an achievement of which I am immensely proud. I have had the privilege of coaching a number “A” teams to grand finals over recent years and some of the talent in those teams was exceptional, as we have seen in subsequent years. But never have I had a team with so much spirit and fight that enabled them to keep winning games from difficult positions. To be honest, this team showed maturity well beyond their years, which held them in good stead when the big games came their way at the end of the season. More importantly, they always displayed great sportsmanship and were graceful in either victory or defeat, which are even more important qualities to me than the actual ability they showed on the field. They always treated their team mates and opposition alike with respect and never criticised one another. To play in this manner and still win the completion shows that you don’t have to belittle and sledge your opposition to be successful. As I mentioned above, the team started off slowly, with a large loss in Round 1 followed by two narrow losses in the following rounds, which saw us anchored to the bottom of the table after Round 3. A victory against Wyong in Round 4 proved to be the catalyst to bigger things, as the team then went on eight of their next nine games, including a classic last ball thriller against the top team Narara who we would come up against in the semis – more of that later – and a polished performance against the other leading team at the time, Southern Spirit. We had climbed to 4th spot by the break for Christmas – a fantastic turnaround on the back of some really good consistent cricket from the team as a whole kids and best of all, which featured excellent contributions from each individual player rather than just a few.

We returned after the holidays with a loss to Terrigal Gold. Enough said about that game! We then embarked on a winning streak of a further five games – again including the second placed Southern Spirit – before a disappointing loss from the jaws of victory to a good Lisarow team, who also gave us trouble in the first round. Thankfully a Kincumber team above us lost the same weekend which allowed us to stay in contention if we could win and remain masters of our own destiny. However, things weren’t looking that promising in the final game vs Warnervale, where we were just 1-20 after 10

  • vers. But the importance of the game kicked in and our team responded as they had done all season by increasing

the scoring to finish with 5/82. They then kept Warnervale to 65 in response with some fantastic bowling and fielding. We had made the semis in fourth place playing against the number 1 team – just the we liked it – no pressure whatsoever and a big scalp there for the taking. The game against Narara – who quite rightly finished top of the table – was possibly our best performance of the

  • season. Playing on a postage stamp at Erina HS, we batted first for a solid score of 96, thanks to a great opening

partnership of 45 between the two lefties Lachlan de Mellow (18) and Mitchell Ryan (25 not out) which was finished

  • ff by Charlie Anderson with 23 not out. Whilst this score was very gettable, we were of the opinion it was also very

defendable if we bowled and fielded to the best of our ability. And boy, didn’t our baby Bluetongues do that! We kept Narara to only two boundaries and then caught and fielded brilliantly to keep Narara to 90 at the end of their

  • innings. This was helped by two cracking catches on the boundary by Lachie Shedden and Riley Mitchell early in the

innings, which dismissed their two top batsmen in the blink of an eye. When faced with needing 11 runs off the final

  • ver, Charlie “Iceman” Anderson stepped up to the mark and bowled six of the best Under 11 deliveries you’ll see to

concede only four singles and leave the Lions seven runs short of their target. Into the Grand Final – this time against the team finishing third, Southern Spirit. Despite having beaten the Spirit twice already, there were no thoughts of an easy win. Having been sent in, we were in a commanding position of 0 – 40 after 10 overs. However, some good bowling by the opposition and a drop off in running and shot making slowed the score and we ended up managing only 79, about 20 less than we had hoped

  • for. Nonetheless, I told the kids that runs on the board in a grand final were always hard to chase down and that if we

bowled well, this score would enough. Just like they had done in the semi, our team carried out these instructions to the letter and bowled and fielded superbly. The tight bowling was started off with a great opening spell by Liam Kirwood at the top of the order. This was then followed by superb spells from Cameron Kopp-Conrow, Riley Mitchell and Henry “Dexter” Anderson (our 8 year old with the serial killer stare), topped off by a direct hit run out by Sophie

  • Shelley. With one over to go, Southern Spirit needed 18 runs to win the game. As they had done throughout the

season, the team again held their nerve brilliantly to concede only two runs as well as picking up a final run-out with two balls remaining to dismiss their opposition for 54. They had done it! From last to first! Thanks to all the parents for their help throughout the year, particularly at the ground on Saturdays where there was always plenty of assistance with scoring, setting up the ground, packing up at the end or anything else that was

  • required. You cannot underestimate how much of a help this is, as it allowed me to devote my time to organising the

team – so thanks to each and every one of you. Thanks also for your genuine friendship and warmth and for entrusting me with your children for the season. I enjoyed it as much as they did and was rewarded by the look of jubilation upon their faces (as well as yours) when we took that final wicket. Our 11A premiership winning team of 2014-15 was: Charlie Anderson, Henry Anderson, Lachlan de Mellow, Liam Kirwood, Cameron Kop-Conrow, Riley Mitchell, Mitchell Ryan, Lachlan Shedden and Sophie Shelley. UNDE R 13’s

Under 13A – Semi Finalists

A challenging season for our 13A team and the boys come through with many strong performances. The competition had 7 sides 3 of which were very strong in all areas. Our objective was to make semi final spot. Highlights of the season included a 1 run loss to one of the top sides. The team tracked along in fourth position for most of the season. We had a wash out and then an unexpected loss in the 2nd last game which dropped us to 5th position. In the final game we played the team that had moved past is into 4th. Needing a win we set a target week one then backed it up with a strong bowling and fielding effort week two, a comfortable win and semi final spot. William Day – very good right arm inswing bowler. He picked up 9 wickets and very dangerous to left hand batters (almost unplayable). Batting developed well during the year and valued his wicket picking up 68 runs. Does needs to work on his concentration in the field. Aidan Mathieson – a great personality in the always positive in the field. Bowling is his strength (9 wickets) and had a very good economy rate (2.2). Batting is a work in progress he is looking to score runs needs to wait for the ball to be in his scoring areas. Ayden Stokes – the rock in our batting top order all season. Worked hard and valued his wicket in compiling 161 runs. Also a strong bowling option maintaining the ball in good areas and troubled the batsman picking up 5 wickets (economy rate 2.1). Alex Shedden – top order batsman who worked hard all year. Like him to play straighter and be more patient (126 runs). Our main wk during the season and did find job (9 dismissals) maintaining quality in the field. Bowls spin in good areas just needs to push it through more.

Liam Macleod – a batsman who values his wicket and worked hard in every innings. Developed more shots during the year and compiled 151 runs during the season. A quality left arm spinner who bowls in the right areas (8 wickets) – needs to ensure he doesn’t bowl too slow. Vice captain during the late part of the season and was a leader in the field. Jordan Halwani-Robinson – Our top bowler (17 wickets) who delivers unplayable out-swingers in his opening

  • spell. His second spells were also very consistent picking up many poles. Batting is a work in progress with a

tendency to worry about the previous ball and not the next one. Top scored against The Entrance with 23

  • runs. A strong fielder and is always anticipating.

Hunter Jackson-Sullivan – Always enjoyed watching Hunter bat, he is prepared to hit the ball and had several good innings during the season (105 runs). Left arm spin bowler who when he got it right troubled all batsmen with bounce and spin (7 wickets) – need to ensure he maintains momentum through the crease at delivery. Good and reliable in the field. Flynn Pitstock – didn’t play as many games as we hoped but did develop well during the season. Batting style improved and looks more confident at the crease. Bowling also improved in consistency and with his strength was able to generate pace of the pitch (picked up 4 wickets). Reliable fieldsman. Zac Allan – batted in the middle order and was our top run scorer during the season. Struggled early however developed more patience during the season and accumulated 199 runs. A strong fast bowler who troubled many batsmen during his spells picking up 10 wickets. Sometimes a little casual in the field but has all the skills. Jacob Lenton – batted with intent to score runs – needs to work on identifying his scoring areas to improve productivity (62 runs). Our second wk and he developed well during the season in this role. Bowling a little short but when he gets it in the right areas troubled the batsman. Sam Lappan – our captain and developed his leadership skills during the season. Batted well all season, impatience cost him more opportunities at the crease but still compiled 120 runs. A top bowler (natural) who keeps the pressure on all batsmen (9 wkts) – needs a little more patience with the ball and let it happen. Fielding is strong and has a great arm. Brad Anderson Coach

Under 13B

The Under 13B team had a tough season with only a handful of wins. However, all the boys should be commended for the way they turned up each week and played the game in a manner of great sportsmanship. They all were a tremendous encouragement to each other. It was a pleasure to coach such a great bunch of young cricketers. The showed great skill and always fought hard to the last ball. We had some great wins, and most of our losses were quite close games. Well done to all of you. I would like to thank Andrew Wright for scoring week in and week out. Also, thanks to Jim Golledge for stepping in as coach when I was not available. Their help was greatly appreciated. Well done to all for a fun and enjoyable season Anthony Crutcher Coach

Under 13C

The majority of the 13C team commenced the season as 11 year olds who had not played competitive cricket

  • before. By season’s end each player could all bowl a legitimate delivery, play a defensive shot, play an

attacking shot and look for a run, walk in with the bowler, back up in the field and catch a ball (most of the time). Regardless of the score, their enthusiasm and willingness to encourage each other could never be

  • faulted. For these reasons this was a rewarding team to coach.

In no particular order the team were: Sophie – an extremely accurate and consistent bowler and most reliable catcher. Rachel – a left arm bowler with pace that surprised many an opposing batsman and occasionally threatened their heads. Sam – opening bowler with pace and accuracy. A tremendously enthusiastic fielder. Aaron – played some solid innings with the bat and started to find the boundary towards the end of the season. Cooper – leading wicket taker who liked to mix it up and was always keen to try his spinners. Brendan – a safe pair of hands, terrific throwing arm and our leading run scorer. Riley – possesses a rocket arm and really improved his bowling accuracy as the season wore on. Amelia – arrived late on the scene but quickly demonstrated good bowling skills. Brayden – a coach’s dream. Always smiling, encouraging his teammates and trying to the best of his ability. Dominic – improved both batting and bowling this season and showed potential behind the stumps. Mitchell – could not quite decide whether he was a left or right handed batsman. However, there was no doubt about the speed of his right arm bowling by the end of the season. Daniel – another bowler whose accuracy improved with each week and someone who was very safe behind the stumps taking some very sharp catches. Thanks to all the parents who scored, helped umpire and provided coffee and encouragement. I hope to see you all back next season when you will be the big kids in this age group. Simon Scarr Coach

Under 15A’s – Grand Finalists

What was predicted at the beginning of the season by most in the know, ended up being fairly spot on. Three teams were dominant in this age group and we were one of them. We were given a wake-up call by Southern Spirit early in the season with a fairly lacklustre fielding and bowling performance which resulted in a loss that with hindsight proved not such a bad thing. Defeating Wyong with a stand out batting performance by Cam Davies of 101 not out we knew from this point forward they were the team to beat. Following this was a controversial loss to Northern Power and another narrow loss to them again in the last round, which seemingly saw them become our nemesis side in the competition. We played them the following week in the semi-final where we comprehensively defeated them bowling them out for 68 and chasing them 3

  • down. In my opinion our best performance of the year!

Grand Final day was a coach’s worst nightmare with the ball doing most of the talking. We bowled Wyong out for 68 in 37 overs and they rolled us for 61 in 45 overs. Despite the loss and stress I encountered, it was exceptional game of cricket to watch. Quality fielding and bowling by both sides truly made it a spectacle. This team was a pleasure to coach and to all the players and parents I offer my sincerest thanks for being given the opportunity to coach such a great bunch of kids. To my manager Evan Schram I offer thanks for his support and work behind the scenes and at games during the season. To my scorers Tony Belcher and Sharon Anderson many thanks as well. To my “occasional” umpire Brett Davies and finally to my groundsman Satya Aluru who set up for all home games, your help was appreciated. Col Ryan Coach

Under 15B’s/ C’s - Premiers

The 2014/15 Season was a successful year for this team resulting in a memorable grand final victory. All players contributed throughout the year starting from round one with an outright victory. Patrick Rosee set the standards high with a century in his first match and his performances continued to be solid throughout the year adding a couple more half centuries to his name. Lachlan Hodson also got off to a great start in the year with a very respectful 79. After some very respectful starts to the season, our team was faced with the news that we would be moving into the C grade competition. Rather than being disappointed the whole team Strived and we would become undefeated for the rest of the year. As mentioned earlier, Patrick was the standout performer with the bat in hand and with the ball, there were some key contributors to the team’s success. Rory McBride was strong all year making him hard to catch for the leading wicket taker. Andre Cheverall was another strong performer throughout the year bowling with great pace and also contributing with a half century mid way through the

  • year. Jack Evans could not have started the year any better earning himself a hat trick in round one. However,

it was his consistent line and length all year – most noticeably in the final series – that was extremely impressive making him our go to man. Deklan Henson was another “go to” man thanks to some great captaincy from Patrick Rosee handing him the new ball. Deklan would constantly take wickets at crucial times helping the team get off to a great start. His brother Cameron also played a hand in a few games with late innings partnerships and wickets with the ball. Speaking of partnerships it was hard to go past a 100 run stand between Rory McBride and Patrick Rosee as the highlight of the year as this helped our team be in a great position in the semi final. Darcy Larkins was solid with the bat with a few not out performances as well as Kieran Katte who almost earned himself a half century on a couple of occasions with power hitting. Liam Rittie had a consistent season and did a great job filling in with captaincy along with Hamish Booth. Hamish was hard to dismiss early on in the season displaying a great batting technique. Hamish was also a solid keeper throughout the season and his hard work didn’t go unnoticed. Our side sore some solid improvements throughout the year including Zack Hegyessy with some strong batting and a sensational Semi Final bowling performance where he was almost unplayable. Sam Thompson is another player who improved throughout the season also taking some very important wickets at crucial stages. Overall as a coach I could not be happier with the team’s performance as everyone contributed in different ways which led to great success . Sean Spowart Coach

Under 17A Green

What an interesting year we had. The team was moved into the "A" comp and we tried very hard to be

  • competitive. Our team chalked up a couple of wins over the comp, but not enough to make the semi - finals

unfortunately. We started the comp off with a win which helped the lads bond together more as a team. Through-out the comp, we faced some pretty tough teams that had more experience than us, but our team didn't give up and continued hard to try and grind out a win. On the field we had the measure of a lot of the other teams. We were pretty sharp. Our bowling attack was becoming stronger and our catches in the field were outstanding. Many a comment was received from the opposition coaches stating that on the field we were as good any. Our wicket keeping and throws in over the stumps made them work hard for runs. We tried hard with the bat but unfortunately we couldn't close out a win. We trained hard to improve each week and had the assistance from Russel Guest and Geoff Drury from time to time. Thanks gents for your input, the lads enjoyed your direction. To our team, I am proud of you all in the way in which you conducted yourselves. You all tried hard and showed some outstanding cricket abilities and with more work, will become a very competitive side in the

  • future. Believe in your own abilities. You all are a great bunch of young men.

To the guys that receive awards this year, you have all played exceptionally well all year and truly deserve your awards. For those that didn't receive an award, doesn't mean that you didn't contribute enough to the team or weren't in the spot light each week. You have all brought something special as an individual and given your best. To Matt Tranmer – thanks Matt for your assistance through-out the year. We all appreciated your efforts you put into this team. Great work!!! To Dave Wood – thanks mate for being the score book recorder. Great job!!! To Megan Waterhouse – thanks Megan for your contribution with scoring and organising our BBQ day. Awesome!!! A HUGE THANKS to Sean Kirby for his commitment to this side ensuring that every week, we had an honest umpire out there keeping an eye on proceedings. Sean and his lovely wife Karen ensured that all our scores and stats etc were live on the BWCC website each and every week. To all the players’ parents, thanks so much for supporting this great young team. It's been a pleasure to meet new people through the season and always happy to see familiar faces from past teams. Last of all I would like to thank all the players. You have all tried hard, mixed well into a tough comp, and never dropped your heads. Well done guys. It has been a great challenge for us all this year. I have a lot of good memories of this team and thanks for the opportunity to coach you guys. Cheers, Dewaine Veivers COACH

Under 17A’s Blue – Grand Finalists

The 2014/2015 season proved to be a very successful one for our team. Making it all the way to the grand final, but unfortunately a very good The Entrance team beat us on the day. It all started at the trials and what BWCC had to offer with the talent available was brilliant. We had to pick 12

  • ut of 24 young men to play in the A grade. As it happened with the strength of the talent available, we were

able to field two very competitive teams in the A grade. Well done to Dewaine and the BWCC Green team who certainly showed great determination, character and sportsmanship through the season. Dewaine you had a great bunch of young men. Back to our season where there were many highlights. This team was very strong all over the park with probably 8 out of the 12 players that could actually open the bowling at any given time. Naturally gifted comes to mind, where to a point we just relied on raw skill at times. Highlights: Our season started off with a good win against Warnervale, with us knocking up over 200. On this day just about everyone got a start with the bat, with Connor Story making our season high score of 65. Round 4: We played Lisarow with Callum Harris (44) and Jordan Foote (22) putting on 60 for the first wicket followed by a great partnership (121*) with some lusty hitting from Pat Murphy (57*) and Ryan Conaghan (49*). Our bowling also did the job on this day with Ryan bagging 3/7 and Josh Doolan 3/10. Round 6: Back to Warnervale again where we rolled them for just 68, with Lewis Cavendar taking 3/10 and Callum Harris coming away with 3/9. Footey also took 3 catches behind the wicket. We got to 153 with Connor (28) and Footey (26) putting on 63 for the 5th wicket. We had them 7/80 in the second dig with McBride taking 3/11. Round 7: The Entrance always proved hard to beat but we put up a good effort on this occasion knocking up 132 with the guys up the top of the order digging in early against some very good bowling and our mid to lower order bringing in the runs. Footey 27, Wyatt Lammi 23, Windy 30 and McBride with 20. Unfortunately we fell 28 runs short but we certainly had them worried. Round 8: This day we had the pleasure of bowling out Kincumber for 57 with an outstanding bowling performance. Wyatt Lammi finished with 4/6 off 5 overs. Josh Doolan bowled 5 overs for 5 maidens. Daniel Maclean (17) and Callum Harris took us to 36 with a good opening stand, which got us on the way to victory. Lewis chipped in with a quick fire 22. Other performances through the season saw Callum Harris score 48 against Lisarow and Josh Doolan take 5/2 and score 35 against BWCC Green.

Semi Final: We rolled Kincumber for 96 with Dane Crocker taking 2/6 with a great caught and bowled. Josh Doolan 2/13 and with Ryan 3/13. In reply we were in a bit of trouble at 4/29 until Connor Story (17*) and Pat Murphy (PM) (38*) combined with a 56 run partnership to win the game for us. Catch of the YEAR: I think everyone who was there would agree that Connor Story’s catch against BWCC Green was our team’s catch of the season. With Connor fielding at a deep cover the ball was hit to Connors left side… We all shrieked in amazement when Connor sprinted to his left and at full stretch took the catch just an inch off the ground in his left hand. Chris Story (Dad) had the pleasure to witness this moment while scoring and simply said “But Connor can’t catch”. On this occasion he did, and it was a ripper. Pink Stumps Day: When Bill Maclean and I are around the Pink Stumps Day is certainly one close to the heart and a great chance to raise funds for the McGrath foundation. Pink cup cakes, bacon and egg rolls, musk sticks and creaming soda soft drinks were the highlight of the day !!!! and the cricket was pretty damn good as well. Approximately $1800 was raised over the two weekends. Thank you to all those who supported the occasion. Well-done BLUE TONGUES!!! I want to thank all the boys for a great season as they showed great respect to me and to also their teammates and opposition. I wish them all the best in their cricket at senior level for the future. Thanks to all the parents who supported their sons and the team each week. Peter Foote Coach

  • AGM and Volunteering – the Club’s Annual General Meeting will be held in May or June. Details of the

date, venue and time will be emailed to everyone and posted on the Club website and Facebook page

  • shortly. We desperately need more assistance to run a Club as large as this (over 300 junior and senior

players with a budget of around $80,000 per annum), so please think about putting your hand up to help – even volunteering to do a small job is of huge assistance and is ultimately very rewarding, especially when you see the enjoyment the kids get out of their cricket as a result.
