Congratulations to all who participated and contributed throughout the season in whatever capacity – player or behind the scenes or both. It becomes clearer every season that in a volunteer organisation, the results are always only as good as the efforts of those who make it tick along. To everyone who worked so hard on the executive committee, the social committee, on statistics and just in general in the cricket sense, the club is indebted to you. Thank you, most sincerely. It’s true to say that we have learnt a lot about how best to drive cricket participation and the running of a club of this size over the last two years. It’s also very true to say that some changes need to be made before next season, so that we can create a better club for everyone involved. To that end, an early AGM is being looked at to better plan our club going forward. This may well involve looking for more people to fill smaller roles within the club, so please, as you are reading this, consider whether you might be able to play a role in our future. We must look to continue the drive to produce the best possible club for the benefit of all concerned both currently and in the future. In my view, one of the keys to this is working only with people who want to work with us within the club. This always results in less people being let down over a season, and can save people such as selectors hours on the phone every week trying to get teams on the park. On the field, in the senior ranks, things were much tougher than we perhaps would have liked. The brightest light in an otherwise flat season was the efforts of the Division 6 squad to make the semi-finals – the only squad to do so this season. In truth though, our Division 4 and 5 sides performed with distinction, just failing at the final hurdles, our Division 3 and 7 sides were well led during the year by Peter Foote and Mitchell Rodgers and gave it everything each week. However, our Division 1 and 2 sides struggled to make an impact, sometimes due to varying unavailability of players which caused lack of continuity in these teams. As results failed to fall for us, pressure grew and eventually we failed to make the finals series – a major problem for the only club looking for promotion and a real issue for us going forward. A different story however, in the junior ranks once again. We had 5 teams make the semi-finals, (Under17Blue, Under 15A, Under 15C, Under 13A and Under 11A), 3 make it through to the grand final and 2 premiership winners. Congratulations to our youngest competitive team the Under 11A’s, who finished fourth at season’s end but were good enough to win their last two games to be crowned premiers. Also, congratulation to our Under 15C side who, due to the nature of the Under 15 competition, saw some changes to their circumstances during the season. In the end, they were good enough to overcome that, and were eventually crowned premiers in the Under 15C competition. Well done to all of our junior teams, coaches, managers and scorers for their efforts during the season, once again you have led the way for the Blue Tongues!!! So finally, some recognition to some of the really hard working individuals in our club. To Geoff Drury and his team who drove our cricket function – many thanks for your efforts. To Russell Guest, who took on the coaching role and made a difference to many, your efforts were greatly appreciated. To Dave and Alicia Amaral, Jackie Brown and Steve Hills who drove all of our social activities, thank you for your efforts. To the rest of the committee – Tim Shelley and Simon Scarr (Vice Presidents), Mark Brown (Secretary), Tony Belcher (Treasurer) thank you for your efforts during the season. To the parents, scorers, coaches and managers who made junior cricket possible for our kids this season, many thanks to each and every one of you. If I’ve missed anyone, I apologise, but sometimes the best work is done behind the scenes without much fuss. tw w o o p pr ro ou ud d h hi is st to or ri ie es s, , o on ne e g gr re ea at t f fu ut tu ur re e t

It promises to be one of growth and of success for us, as many of our younger players make great strides into the senior competition and strengthen those ranks – because that is our future and that is what we must all work toward – opportunity for all young cricketers to succeed and grow. A final, cautionary note however – we all need to realise that those who currently do those jobs that are so vital for our success won’t always be around. Many are considering their positions for next season and may not continue. Please, to all that read this report, think about getting involved at some level in the running of our club next season. There’s plenty of help for you if you’re thinking you don’t know how. Only by finding more people to help in the running and administration of the club can we hope to become the club we know we can be!!!! See you all again next season………… Mark Ronson PRESIDENT TE EA AM M R RE EP PO OR RT TS S T In2Cricket Milo In2Cricket started in November last year with an influx of around 20 kids keen to learn the game and have some fun. We also welcomed the larger than life Big Al Lock to the role of Co-ordinator and entrusted him with the role of looking after these kids and teaching them the skills of the game. This proved to be a master stroke as Al – with his experience as a PE teacher – was a perfect choice for the role and had the kids hanging off his every word – as well as hanging off him literally (usually by an arm or leg)! As with previous years, the improvement in all the kids’ skills over the programme was enormous, with their catching, fielding, batting and bowling all coming along really well by the end of February. This included kids in their first year, as well as a few of the second and third year veterans, who also continued to hone their skills. Thanks to all the parents for bringing their kids down every week - I hope they had a great time and enjoyed their introduction to cricket. Thanks also to a number of mums and dads for helping Big Al out throughout the season. It was greatly appreciated and helped Al run the programme and keep the kids in smaller, more manageable groups. Overall, a great season was had by all. I know from speaking to Al that he had fun and, from observation, I could see all the kids did too. I’m also sure the parents enjoyed 1½ hours of the cheapest child care going around! Keep the kids practising over the winter months and hopefully we’ll see them again next season in either the In2cricket or Under 9’s competition. On behalf of the Club, I would like to pass on a huge thank you to Al for his dedication and patience – this is probably the hardest but most enjoyable coaching role in the Club and to have Al run the program as professionally and enthusiastically as he did is a credit to him and a real shot in the arm for our Club. Thanks Al! Tim Shelley Vice President tw w o o p pr ro ou ud d h hi is st to or ri ie es s, , o on ne e g gr re ea at t f fu ut tu ur re e t
