How does it work?

Step 1: You need to have some files stored somewhere in the cloud e.g. Dropbox, Google Drive, OneDrive, iCloud

Step 3:

Create a Boxcryptor Account

Start Boxcryptor. Click on create account. Follow the wizard to finish the account creation. Create a password that you can remember. Boxcryptor is zero knowledge encryption software, therefore they cannot restore your password!!!

Step 4: Once installed you should see the Boxcryptor icon in Windows Explorer

N.B. At this point Boxcryptor is not running (this is controlled by you in settings)

Step 5: Run Boxcryptor – you decide if this

is done automatically or if a password is required each time etc.

Now you will see the “virtual” drive X that is created by Boxcryptor - this is called “mounting” a drive

If you expand the X Drive you will see that Boxcryptor has detected your cloud storage, plus removable devices

As a backup you can use any file backup software e.g. FreeFileSync to regularly back up the unencrypted versions of all your files from X Drive to a local source
